We had a little bit of a surprise speaker this week! Matt Shirk, our member and Public Defender for the 4th Judicial District shared with us some great information regarding civil citations, teen court, and ways to help young people before they get caught up in the judicial system. We really appreciate Matt and his willingness to step in and address the club with only a few days notice.

We are getting into our slow season with club business, so I really need your help with a few things. One of the most important economic drivers of our club is membership dues. New memberships account for our largest budget item, and it often gets lost in the sea of announcements about our volunteer efforts. I ask that you bring a guest to our meeting every week, so that we can grow our club.

I also ask that you remember to bring an auction item! Our weekly auction is arguably the most entertaining part of our meeting, but if we don't have material The Gene and John Show won't be nearly as fun! The monies raised during the auction also goes to underwrite club events, so dust off that bottle of Cab that we all know you're never going to drink and bring it to the meeting on Wednesday.

Our speaker this week is Ben Davis, owner of Intuition Ale Works and the subject is BEER (and legislation surrounding BEER) so I expect to see you all there!

CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC

19th Annual SBMC Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic

Presented by Pet Paradise

Proceeds Benefit the Youth Achiever Program Scholarship Fund (501 3)

It's been almost a month since our tournament and the tally is in!  Be sure to attend this Wednesday's meeting to find out how much our tournament raised for our scholarship fund.

GOLF OUTING
Our June golf outing will be a special treat at one of the World Golf Village/World Golf Hall of Fame courses. Last year we played the King & Bear course, this year it's the Slammer & Squire. With course design input from PGA legends and Hall of Fame members Sam (The Slammer) Snead and Gene (The Squire) Sarazen this resort course offers views of the World Golf Hall of Fame from several holes and is distinguished by memorable par-3's, preserved woodlands, wetlands and natural beauty. Our date to play this excellent lay-out is Friday, June 27th and our shotgun start will be at 1:00PM. Thanks to the World Golf Hall of Fame being a fellow SBMC member we are able to keep the greens fee very competitive at $64.00 per participant (+tax), including range balls. We have room for 32 players, and there are only 4 spots left! Please contact Nico Hogeveen at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

CIVIC AFFAIRS

As you know our club has a long history of community activism.  Our committee oversees most political and governmental issues impacting our organization and occasionally recommends the club's involvement.  We also encourage our fellow members to keep abreast of political issues as well as voice concerns to our elected officials.  Member Jackie Smith alerted us to a great event later this month and we encourage interested members to attend.
