PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095

Please allow me to offer my sincere thanks to those who volunteered this week at The Players. Today is our final day, but it's not too late to get out there for the 11-6 or 12-close shifts! This year I got to see first-hand how much work goes into organizing the 472 volunteers necessary to fulfill our contractual requirement to Prom Catering. Please remember to thank 1st VP Tim Howe, as well as TPC Chairmen Hal Smith, Tom Gill, and Penny Kievet for their time and effort. The funds that have been raised this past week are a very important part of our annual budget, and their dedication to this task was unparalleled.

Remember that Beer Fest is this Friday and our Charity Golf Classic is the following Monday. I will be working both events and hope to see you all there as well.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our Moms in the club. Gentlemen, I hope you are taking care of your wives and Moms today as well. Unless of course you will be volunteering for us at The Players.

BEER FESTIVAL

Jacksonville Craft and Import Beer Festival

Friday, May 16th

Jacksonville Veteran's Arena

We desperately need volunteers to work at the BeerFest on Friday, May 16, 2014.  This is a fun event and by volunteering to work we can generate a great deal of money for our club.  The event is from 5 pm - 9 pm.  You can volunteer to work the entire time or just a two or three hour shift.  We will take whatever time that you have available.  The more volunteers that we have, the more money that is generated for our charities.  Volunteers work as ID checkers, helping set up or clean up, assist as a booth attendant, oversee the silent auction, or hand out brochures and sampling glasses.  None of the volunteer duties are overly strenuous so everyone can participate.  You can bring your spouse or friends to work the event and all volunteers get in free.  There will be about 40 different brewers with over 400 different kinds of beer and 20 restaurants represented.

If you can't volunteer your time, you can donate items for the silent auction or attend the event.  If you purchase a ticket through the club, one half of the ticket price goes to the SBMC.  We will circulate a sign-up book at each meeting, or you can sign up to volunteer on the website.  Go to  www.sbmcjax.com , go to calendar at the top, click over to May and go to the 16th. Or you can contact the co-chairs by phone or email if you would like to help.

This year's Chair and Co-Chair for BeerFest are:

Michael Gullion [email protected] 904-396-9600, and

Barry Griffin, [email protected] 904-838-8961.

FISHING TRIP
Let's go fishing!!   This year will be our SIXTH annual fishing trip on the Mayport Princess.  The trip is on June 7th, and tickets go on sale starting TODAY for only $80 per person.  What does that give you, you ask?  It gets you one of the just 40 spots on the boat, plus more!

Just so you know, prices on all of the Party Fishing boats in the area went up this year, so the street price is $85 per person.  Well, thanks to Becky Hogan, an SBMC member and part owner of the Mayport Princess, we were able to keep the price at $80 for ONE more year!

Plus, it gets better!  Compliments of our club, we also supply everyone with a really nice boxed lunch from Honeybaked Hams, bottled water, soft drinks, and BEER!!  Did I say beer?  Yes, we do supply beer for you.

The 40 spots sell out every year, and this year will be no exception.  This trip has sold out in less than a week in the past, so don't hesitate.  Either pay on our website online, or pay Dee at the door.

Don't miss the boat!!
