Some of our members have noticed that our list of announcements at the weekly meetings is getting pretty long. The month of May is approaching fast- and it is undoubtedly our busiest month of the year. Each May we fill hundreds of volunteer shifts for our tents at The Players and also at the Beer Fest. I cannot stress how important it is that each club member gets involved. Bring your friends, co-workers, neighbors, strangers- whomever! Not only is it a lot of fun but it can be great networking. The first piece of business I got from the club came from pouring beer with a fellow member. These events help us to raise money to support other club functions so it imperative that we all lend a hand.

We also have a Meet-A-Member coming up this week at Luten Insurance. Scott Schilbrack has shared with me some of the great raffle prizes they will be having- see below for more details! Our Meet-A-Member events have the reputation of being a great fun networking event for a great value. This one also happens to be supporting a great cause.

Our speaker this week will be covering the topic of ethics in our local government. I know it will be a very interesting presentation, and knowing our members there will probably be some exceptionally interesting questions at the end! Please join us for lunch on Wednesday.

MEET-A-MEMBER

In honor of TPC, Luten Insurance is hosting a golf themed Meet-a-Member. Come and experience a 3-hole indoor putt-putt course, prizes and lots of good food and beverages.

BEER FESTIVAL

Jacksonville Craft and Import Beer Festival

Friday, May 16

th

Jacksonville Veteran's Arena

We are looking for volunteers to work at BeerFest on Friday, May 16, 2014.  This is a fun event and by volunteering to work we can generate a great deal of money for our club.  The event is from 5 pm - 10 pm.  You can volunteer to work the entire time or just a two or three hour shift.  We will take whatever time that you have available.  The more volunteers that we have, the more money that is generated for our charities.  Volunteers work as ID checkers, helping set up or clean up, assist as a booth attendant, oversee the silent auction, or hand out brochures and sampling glasses.  None of the volunteer duties are overly strenuous so everyone can participate.  You can bring your spouse or friends to work the event and all volunteers get in free.  There will be about 40 different brewers with over 400 different kinds of beer and 20 restaurants represented.

If you can't volunteer your time, you can donate items for the silent auction or attend the event.  If you purchase a ticket through the club, one half of the ticket price goes to the SBMC.  We will circulate a sign-up book at each meeting, or you can contact the co-chairs by phone or email if you would like to help.

This year's Chair and Co-Chair for BeerFest are: Michael Gullion [email protected] 904-396-9600, and Barry Griffin, [email protected]  904-838-8961.
