PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095
Last week we honored the Beauclerc Elementary 5th Grade Safety Patrol Students by having them at our weekly meeting, and then helping them the next day to fundraise for their future trip to Washington, DC. I was a safety patrol here in Jacksonville when I was in 5th grade, and my school couldn't make the trip because most of the students couldn't afford to go. This is why the Youth Achiever Program is near and dear to my heart.
We also had the pleasure of having the NJROTC students from Lee High School make a presentation. I am always impressed with their focus and talent, and even more so when they are wielding a rifle towards the head table! I have to admit- I totally flinched. Thankfully, they were extremely capable and no one sustained any injuries.
A special thanks to 3rd VP Julie Clements, co-chairs Wendy Helms and Kevin Carlton, the committee, volunteers, and sponsors that contributed to this event.
We are very fortunate to have Vince Cavin, Director of Operations for One Spark as our speaker this week. One Spark begins April 9th and will be bringing creators from all over the world to downtown Jacksonville, where they will have the opportunity to find the resources to make their ideas a reality. Join me this Wednesday as we learn more.

BEER FESTIVAL
|
Jacksonville Craft and Import Beer Festival
Friday, May 16
th
Jacksonville Veteran's Arena
We are looking for volunteers to work at BeerFest on Friday, May 16, 2014. This is a fun event and by volunteering to work we can generate a great deal of money for our club. The event is from 5 pm - 10 pm. You can volunteer to work the entire time or just a two or three hour shift. We will take whatever time that you have available. The more volunteers that we have, the more money that is generated for our charities. Volunteers work as ID checkers, helping set up or clean up, assist as a booth attendant, oversee the silent auction, or hand out brochures and sampling glasses. None of the volunteer duties are overly strenuous so everyone can participate. You can bring your spouse or friends to work the event and all volunteers get in free. There will be about 40 different brewers with over 400 different kinds of beer and 20 restaurants represented.
If you can't volunteer your time, you can donate items for the silent auction or attend the event. If you purchase a ticket through the club, one half of the ticket price goes to the SBMC. We will circulate a sign-up book at each meeting, or you can contact the co-chairs by phone or email if you would like to help.
This year's Chair and Co-Chair for BeerFest are: Michael Gullion [email protected] 904-396-9600, and Barry Griffin, [email protected] 904-838-8961.
