PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095
Our speaker last week was Toney Sleiman of Sleiman Enterprises, the owner of the Jacksonville Landing. It was great to hear an update about future plans for changes to the Landing, because it's such a huge piece of Jacksonville's riverfront. It seems that we weren't the only audience what was interested in what Mr. Sleiman had to say, you can read a full recap in the Financial News and Daily Record: http://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/showstory.php?Story_id=542457 .
In other news, SBMC member Lisa Almeida of Freedom Boat Club was recognized last week at the 2014 Women in Business Awards as "Up & Coming Entrepreneur of the Year." Please join me in offering Lisa our congratulations.
Our speaker this week will be Glenn Connelly, from the Jacksonville Footgolf Association. Now, I know what you're thinking, but this sport combines two of my favorite things: Soccer and Golf! How could I resist? We will learn more on Wednesday, and I look forward to seeing you then.

The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Beaclerc with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand). This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs. The date for the Spring YAP is March 26th for the luncheon and March 27th for the BBQ at Beauclerc Elementary.
PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER ON MARCH 27TH AT BEAUCLERC ELEMENTARY. WE HAVE 2 SHIFTS: 12:00-4:00 AND 3:00-6:00. WE WILL BE SETTING UP AND SERVING THE CHICKEN DINNERS. YOU CAN SIGN UP BY SENDING ME AN EMAIL OR PUTTING YOUR NAME IN THE YAP BOOK THAT WILL BE AT THE MEETINGS.
