Last Tuesday I attended the SBMC Directory Committee's first proofing party of the year. Now, you probably think we are trying to trick you into attending by calling it a "party," but it really was fun! I personally got to know a few members better, while working to make sure our directory is as accurate as possible and eating delicious Mexican food. Small volunteering opportunities such as these are the absolutely best way to get to know your fellow members, so I encourage you all to find ways to get involved in our great club.

Our speaker this week is Toney Sleiman of Sleiman Enterprises. We have asked Toney to come and give us an update on his plans for potential redevelopment of the Jacksonville Landing. The Landing is an iconic piece of our riverfront, so it is in the best interest of all Jacksonville residents that it be appropriately utilized.

Please remember that this week is also the last opportunity to sign up a new member and win the 1st Quarter Membership prize! The winner will be decided at the week's board meeting.
MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY

We are gearing up for our 2nd Proofing Party!

Please join the Membership Directory Committee on Tuesday, March 11th, at 5pm at the La Nopalera's Restaurant in San Marco (1631 Hendricks Avenue) for our second of three Proofing Parties performing edits on the 2014 Membership Directory.  Food and beverages will be provided.  To keep our meetings short, we need at least a dozen volunteers!  So please help!

Email Rod Borom at [email protected] if you could provide a couple hours of help that evening.  Remember to bring a laptop with you, if you have one.  Thank you!

YOUTH ACHIEVER PROGRAM

The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Beaclerc with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand). This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs.  The date for the Spring YAP is March 26th for the luncheon and March 27th for the BBQ at Beauclerc Elementary.

This is your opportunity to make an investment in this worthy program. As SBMC members you can make a difference by getting involved. There are 3 ways to get involved you can help on the YAP committeevolunteer the day of the cookout  or Invest by
being a Sponsor in this program. Investment Sponsorships for just the spring is $125 or you can lock in a Sponsorship for both
spring and fall for just $200.  If you lock in a Sponsorship for both spring and fall you will be entered into two drawings:  one for a hole sponsorship for the YAP Golf Tournament and one for a station sponsorship for the NJROTC Clay Shoot.

PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER ON MARCH 27TH AT BEAUCLERC ELEMENTARY.  WE HAVE 2 SHIFTS:  12:00-4:00 AND 3:00-6:00.  WE WILL BE SETTING UP AND SERVING THE CHICKEN DINNERS.  YOU CAN SIGN UP BY SENDING ME AN EMAIL OR PUTTING YOUR NAME IN THE YAP BOOK THAT WILL BE AT THE MEETINGS.

GOLF OUTING

Dear SBMC Golfers and Friends,

Our next monthly golf outing will be on Friday, March 28th at the Champions Club at Julington Creek. Easily accessible from the Southside area, this course designed and owned by former PGA Professional Steve Melnyk, offers a retreat to traditional designs of the past. With rolling Bermuda grass fairways wrapped around sparkling lakes and dense woods, the Championship Club offers a challenging but playable experience for the advanced and average golfer. The picture below shows hole # 5. Your rate to participate is $35.00 and includes range balls for practice. We'll have a shotgun start at 11:30AM. If you want to play let me know and reply to this email to reserve your spot(s)!

As always, hit 'm long and straight.
