PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095

I would like to extend a special thanks to   2nd Vice President Patrick Heatherington for filling in while Tim and I were in Puerto Rico. It was so nice to come back and hear all of the compliments about Patrick doing a job well done. It was even nicer getting a whole week off to escape the winter chill and have some fun in the sun!

Last week we had a very interesting presentation from Jason Altmire, Senior Vice President of Public Policy for Florida Blue. Covering the topic of health care reform and the Affordable Care Act, Mr. Altmire also brought the unique perspective of being a former three term member of Congress. Thanks to all of our SBMC members who attended the meeting, we once again had strong attendance and excellent questions from the crowd.

We have a few great events coming up in the near future. Our first Meet-A-Member of the year will be 02/27 at Kimberly Clarke Salon. Nico Hogeveen has put together an impressive schedule of Monthly Golf Outings for the year, the next one being held at Amelia National on 02/28. Also remember that the deadline to sponsor the Spring YAP is quickly approaching, and the Safety Patrol students of Beauclerc Elementary really appreciate your donations.

I would like to leave you with a friendly reminder that Monday, February 17th  is Presidents Day, so once again your bank is closed and yours truly has the day off. In honor of our first President, for whom the holiday was started, I will conclude with a quote that is near and dear to my heart:

"Remember that it is the actions, and not the commission, that make the officer, and that there is more expected from him, than the title." George Washington
SBMC GOLF OUTING - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28th

This month's golf outing is an absolute treat!

The Amelia National Golf & Country Club will host us on Friday, February 28th with a shotgun start at 11:00AM sharp. This is clearly one of the best courses in the area! Amelia National was designed by world famous golf course architect Tom Fazio and the many large bunkers, wide fairways and gargantuan greens are typical cues of his work. Since the opening in 2006 this track has had only limited play, partly due to its high green fees (normally $150.00+). However, with the SBMC you will be able to play Amelia National at only $50.00 per participant (+tax), including range balls and bottled water on the cart.

Tee times are going very fast so please contact Nico Hogeveen at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

YOUTH ACHIEVER PROGRAM

The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Beaclerc with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand). This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs.  The date for the Spring YAP is March 26th for the luncheon and March 27th for the BBQ at Beauclerc Elementary.

This is your opportunity to make an investment in this worthy program. As SBMC members you can make a difference by getting involved. There are 3 ways to get involved you can help on the YAP committeevolunteer the day of the cookout  or Invest by
being a Sponsor in this program. Investment Sponsorships for just the spring is $125 or you can lock in a Sponsorship for both
spring and fall for just $200.

The volunteer sign-up book will be going around at the weekly meetings.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
The 2014 Spotlight Speaker Book is now available at the sign-in table.

This is your opportunity to talk about your business, family, or sell your wares for 5 minutes.

Just as a reminder, introduction of guests and thanking other members for doing business is NOT the time to sell your business or upcoming event, that's reserved for the spotlight speaker.

We also need volunteers to lead us in the Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Pick your date before they fill up!
