Well, as you can imagine the past two weeks have been very busy for both me and your officers. Committees and Chairs are coming together to plan out what is sure to be a wonderful year for the SBMC. We will very shortly begin the process of fundraising for our Charity Golf Classic and our Spring Youth Achievers Program. These are key charitable components to our organization because they are the funding source for our scholarships. I ask you all to help out in any way you can, whether it be by your treasury, talent, or time.
Last week we had a presentation by Hugh Greene, CEO of Baptist Health. Certainly the new Affordable Care Act impacts consumers and health care providers alike, so it was interesting to hear from the leader of a local hospital network about its affects on their practice.
This week we observe Martin Luther King Jr day, a federal holiday that falls each year around the time of King's birthday. While I know that many of you will go about your day like any other, I hope that you will take a moment to reflect on Kings' life and legacy.
"A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
I hope you will also remember that your bank is closed, and that yours truly has the day off.
Annie Howe
SBMC President

MEET-A-MEMBER
|
CALLING ALL MEMBERS
We are taking names for those of you that want to host a Meet-a-Member. We are planning on 6 or 7 this year so don't miss out on this opportunity.
For those newer members, Meet-a-Member is a members opportunity to host an after-hours open house to share what they do. Some are held at their place of business, others are at a separate venue; usually with food, snacks, drinks, etc.

YAP
|
The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Beaclerc with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand). This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs. We are still working on a date.
This is your opportunity to make an investment in this worthy program. As SBMC members you can make a difference by getting involved. There are 3 ways to get involved you can help on the YAP committee, volunteer the day of the cookout or Invest by being a Sponsor in this program. Investment Sponsorships for just the spring is $125 or you can lock in a Sponsorship for both spring and fall for just $200.
