PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club

(904) 654-6095

I am honored to serve as your 2014 President. Thank you all for the outpouring of support you have shown to me.

I want to once again thank Jepp Walter for his leadership in 2013. Don't think that his job is done, however. Jepp was elected this past Wednesday to serve as the Chairman of the Southside Business Men's Club Board of Governors. Congratulations, Mr. Chairman.

There are a few things I want to reiterate from last Wednesday's meeting here, for the benefit of those who missed our annual installation ceremony.

Our club is a long-term planning club. For the past two years the civic affairs committee has been looking for a way to make the SBMC relevant to the community again. With the help of the Board, we can put together a Political Action Committee, so we can have a greater say in the way our city is run. As a business organization we are only smaller than local Chambers of Commerce in size of membership. Why should we not have a seat at the table of public opinion?

In addition, with the help of the board, your officers aim to expand our scholarships to the NJROTC students who have demonstrated their leadership skills recently at our club meetings. In order to make that happen we plan to take our Clay Shoot, which last year was a social event underwritten by the club, and turn it into a fundraiser. This way we can decrease club expenses and create a new revenue source, with a new audience, that doesn't tax our already generous members.

By doing these things we can decrease spending, increase charitable revenue, and drive in membership. We can elevate our profile, so that the rest of the community knows who we are and what we do.

I believe I can speak for all of our officers when I say that we are

looking forward to a fun and productive 2014, and I sincerely hope you will join us.
