PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Jepp Walter, SBMC 2013 President Jepp Walter, President
Southside Business Men's Club

(904) 838-8400

Last week started out with an amazing Jaguar Tailgating party put on by 4th Vice President Julie Clements, along with her tailgating team of Michael Gullion, Angie Tekin, and Tom Kennedy. I'd like to thank the whole team for their hard work.  I'd also like to thank John Hamel and his crew for being an awesome DJ service for us with a great music selection, and Scott Schilbrack for his generous donation of his time and 'spirits' at the bar!  Once again, we completely SOLD OUT the Jaguar tickets, and sold an additional 60 plus wrist bands.  What a great turnout!

Then at our meeting our guest speaker was Senator Aaron Bean, who was exciting and funny at the same time.  Senator Bean gave us a lot of insight on the planning of, and participating in the legislative session.  It turns out he is also quite the auctioneer, thanks goes to Past President Gene Maszy for bringing him up to close out the door prizes.

Last Tuesday was the first of many of the float building sessions to get our club ready for the Veteran's Day Parade.  Please pick a Tuesday (or as many as you want) and come help put together our beautiful float.  You will feel a big sense of pride when we move down the Parade route in Downtown Jacksonville in November, knowing that you contributed in the building and decorating of the float.

This week should be interesting hearing from Circuit Court Judge Mallory Cooper.  Please invite your friends, and I'll see you Wednesday!

VETERAN'S DAY FLOAT

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!!!!

It is once again time to prepare our float entry for the 2013 Veteran's Day Parade in Downtown Jacksonville on November 11th.  The SBMC float is dedicated to our nation's military service members, both active and Veterans alike, and commemorates those who have given the supreme sacrifice for this great nation.  We need your help this Tuesday evening, October 8, 2013 at 5L30pm at 4115 University Blvd. W (in the warehouse under the bridge), and will meet on each consecutive Tuesday evening through November 4th, same place and time.  Food and beverages will be provided. You are welcome to BYOB.  YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THIS REQUIRES SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS EACH WEEK TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT!

Please contact the following members if you have any questions or interest in participating, or just SHOW UP!

SWC BUILDING

Fellow Members,

You may have heard the rumors of a potential partnership with the Southside Women's Club for their building.  We have an opportunity to join them in ownership of their building which would eventually be owned fully by SBMC.  Earlier this year, the board appointed a committee to begin exploring the feasibility of such an endeavor.  The building is operating, but is somewhat outdated and needs some upgrades so we would likely not move our regular meetings for a few years were we to move forward.  However we'd begin managing and adding revenue streams to the building as well as raising funds and making improvements in the meantime.  This is a great opportunity for SBMC, however a massive undertaking not to be taken lightly and is still being considered.  At this point its time for members to be on site and see what all the fuss is about.

That being said, the Past Presidents committee has donated funds from their budget for a social event at the building on

Thursday October 17th from 5pm-7pm.  This event is for MEMBERS and Spouses ONLY!  There is no cost to attend, however we need a headcount to plan accordingly.  Please email: [email protected] or click on the "Click HERE for details" link on www.southsidebusinessmensclub.com and login to register for the event.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at the numbers below.
