PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Jepp Walter, SBMC 2013 President Jepp Walter, President
Southside Business Men's Club

(904) 838-8400

Last week we had an interesting talk from Nat Ford with the JTA (Jacksonville Transportation Authority).  It was exciting to hear of the changes on the horizon and how they are working towards improving our transportation system in the 7 county area.

We have the big Jaguar tailgating party on the day of this newsletter, hope you made plans to attend.  4th Vice President and her tailgate committee have really talked this one up, it should be a blast!  And who knows, maybe the Jags can pull one off too.  One can hope.

This week we have State of Florida Senator Aaron Bean.  I've heard him talk at Downtown Council, and it's great to get an update on the State legislature from the Senate side.  Please bring guests, and plan to attend.

Have a good week, everyone!  See you Wednesday.

Jepp

It is once again time to prepare our float entry for the 2013 Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Jacksonville on November 11th.  The SBMC float is dedicated to our nations military service members, both active and Veterans alike, and commemorates those who have given the supreme sacrifice for this great nation.  We begin our float building activities on Tuesday, October 1st, 5:30 PM at 4115 University Blvd W (in the warehouse under the bridge), and will meet on each consecutive Tuesday evening through November 4th, same place and time.  Food and beverages will be provided. You are welcome to BYOB.  YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THIS REQUIRES SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS EACH WEEK TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT!

FALL YAP

YAP Cookout - October 3rd
YAP Program - November 20th

The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Pine Forest with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand).  This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs, and the Fall one is just around the corner on October 3, 2013.

This is your opportunity to make an investment in this worthy program. As SBMC members you can make a difference by getting involved.  There are 3 ways to get involved: you can help on the YAP committee, volunteer the day of the cookout 10/3/2013 or Invest by being a Sponsor in this program.  Investment Sponsorships for this Fall only are $125.

SWC BUILDING

Fellow Members,

You may have heard the rumors of a potential partnership with the Southside Women's Club for their building.  We have an opportunity to join them in ownership of their building which would eventually be owned fully by SBMC.  Earlier this year, the board appointed a committee to begin exploring the feasibility of such an endeavor.  The building is operating, but is somewhat outdated and needs some upgrades so we would likely not move our regular meetings for a few years were we to move forward.  However we'd begin managing and adding revenue streams to the building as well as raising funds and making improvements in the meantime.  This is a great opportunity for SBMC, however a massive undertaking not to be taken lightly and is still being considered.  At this point its time for members to be on site and see what all the fuss is about.

That being said, the Past Presidents committee has donated funds from their budget for a social event at the building on Thursday October 17th from 5pm-7pm.  This event is for MEMBERS and Spouses ONLY!  There is no cost to attend, however we need a headcount to plan accordingly.  Please email: [email protected] or click on the "Click HERE for details" link on www.southsidebusinessmensclub.com and login to register for the event.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at the numbers below.
