PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Jepp Walter, SBMC 2013 President

Jepp Walter, President

Southside Business Men's Club

(904) 838-8400

Last week we had an eye opening talk by Adam Burke and the Veteran's Farms.  It was a moving talk and really made us all think about the help that our veterans we are so proud of need.  He let us know that you can contribute in both funds and the actual act of farming!  It was very informative.

This is TPC week!  If you have not already committed, please volunteer at The Players Championship and help run the concession stand.  It is a lot of fun, and of course the kickoff party hosted by 4th Vice President Julie Clements was a BLAST!

At the meeting this Wednesday we will hear from Robert Devine, concerning the recent Winn Dixie - Bi Lo merger and Current Trends in Human Resources.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you Wednesday!

Jepp

THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

We're down to the wire with TPC beginning this week and we're still severely understaffed.  At this point we still need volunteers for every day except Wednesday, and particularly the afternoon/closing shifts.  Those times are

 11-6 and 12-close

This event means about $9k to SBMC contributing to the budget that funds many of our annual programs.  All of our volunteer events bring revenue to the club for the hours worked which impact most of our social/ticketed events as well as involvement in the community.  Not only do they allow us to do things like take underprivileged children shopping for the holidays, they're also a means of reducing the cost of many events like the Holiday Gala ($6,500), the Jag's Social ($2,500).  Additionally they're a means of funding some of our community recognition efforts like Police officer of the year and Firefighter of the year which each carry $1,000 in awards to the recipients for putting themselves at risk in the line of duty.

All that being said, we need all hands on deck.  If you haven't yet signed up, please do so.  If you can't make it, try and find someone to send in your stead.  I mentioned members at the meeting who had signed up for multiple shifts like Past President Win Thomas whose working 2 different days; and Past President AJ Pionessa who has committed to 3 shifts!  If you'd like to volunteer, please email, or sign up via the website (members only)  This is one of the most fun volunteer events of the year and is sure to be better than ever.

Finally, our added incentive....the drawing.  If you volunteer for any day you'll be eligible to win $100.  However if Saturday your name goes in the drawing twice, and if you're working Sunday, or the Thurs-Sat Closing shifts you'll have your name in 3 TIMES!!!!

BEERFEST

Jacksonville Craft and Import Beer Festival

Friday, May 17th

Jacksonville Veteran's Arena

We still desperately need volunteers for the BeerFest on Friday, May 17, 2013. Volunteers should be available for two to three hours each between 5:00pm and 11:00pm. You could bring your spouse and/or a friend (or two or three friends). The BeerFest raises a lot of money for our club. Since we do not participate in the Jazz Festival this year, the BeerFest will replace some of the funds we are losing. You can help in different ways: Volunteer your time, donate an item for the Silent Auction (100% return to SBMC) or simply by buying tickets for the event. Please reply by e-mail to the Co-Chairs.

This year's Co-chairs for BeerFest are: Axel von Loewenclau ([email protected] 904 504-0262), and Tripp House ([email protected] 904 502-2291)  They have full details about anything you will need to know.
