PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Jepp Walter, SBMC 2013 PresidentJepp Walter, President
Southside Business Men's Club

(904) 838-8400

This past Wednesday, we had a very informative talk from Bruce Ganger, the Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida. The mission of Second Harvest North Florida is to feed hungry people by soliciting and judiciously distributing food and grocery products and to educate the public about the nature of and solutions to the problems of hunger. There are two basic components: rescuing surplus food and redistributing it to local nonprofit organizations serving the hungry and providing nutritious meals and healthy snacks to children from low-income families through community-based Kids Cafe sites. Second Harvest is the link between surplus food and agencies serving children, families, individuals and senior citizens in need. The majority of surplus food would be thrown away without this link.  It was also a pleasure having the ladies of the Southside Women's Club visit last week.

Tripp House was the winner of our 51" Samsung TV that was
raffled off at last week's meeting.  Congratulations to Second Vice President Tim Howe, and his Raffle Chairman Barry Griffin, for a very successful raffle that raised more money than expected for our club.

Last week Howard Caplan's son was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while on a bicycle.  At last communication with Howard his son underwent 3 surgeries.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

This Wednesday we will hear all about the Jacksonville Axemen Rugby team from Drew Slover.  I'll see you all Wednesday.

THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It's that time again. Time to gear up for one of the biggest SBMC events of the year, TPC!  Because we're the best organization out there, we've been asked to manage a newer, larger tent the week of May 6th-12th.  If you'd like to volunteer, please email or make sure and sign-up at the next SBMC meeting. This is one of the most fun volunteer events of the year and is sure to be better than ever.

(Did I mention there is a party involved?) As usual 4th VP Julie Clements has graciously offered to host our annual TPC party, but you must be a volunteer to attend! If you're a new member, or haven't ever worked TPC before, email or call with any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you there!

RSVP and let us know if you intend to have lunch.  This will ensure that SJCC has proper seating and enough food for our group.  RSVP to [email protected]

Please remember that we get billed when someone eats. That means if you only have a cookie, or soup our club gets charged the full amount. Do not eat unless you pay for lunch or it takes money that we would use for our charities.

Thanks!
