PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Jepp Walter, SBMC 2013 President
Jepp Walter
2013 President

This week we welcomed the return of our
1st & 2nd Vice Presidents, Annie & Tim Howe, from their overseas trip.  Back to work!!  Annie is putting together RFP's for the printing of the directory, and getting her membership team together, and getting members to update their profiles, and Tim is... well, Tim is by her side helping her!!  Just kidding.  He just doesn't have a lot on the 2nd VP plate at this time.  He'll be very busy, soon enough.

This week we had our Supervisor of Elections for Duval County, Jerry Holland, as our Guest Speaker.  He brought forth a great deal of information of how our elections are being handled in the Jacksonville area, and how we compare to other areas of the state.  He also informed us he will be leaving the position due to term limits, and will likely return to Public Service in some form, but specifics yet to be announced.  We should hear something from him before year end.  Jerry, we thank you for your service to our city.  You will be missed as Supervisor of Elections.

This week we will have Ron Stone, the United Way Campaign Chair from Mayo Clinic as our Guest Speaker.  I look forward to seeing you all Wednesday!

Thank you,
Jepp

CIVIC AFFAIRS UPDATE

Last week City Council President and fellow member Bill Bishop updated us on local issues.  Among them was the economic development reform for which the club passed a resolution in October 2012 encouraging the laws be brought up to date by year end.  It turns out that initiative did pass and the first package after which was introduced to council the Tuesday prior to our meeting.  As for the Southbank Riverwalk, Mr. Bishop advised little progress has been made to date and acknowledged we've sent requests for the mayor to address our club on the topic specifically with no success to date.  We'll continue our efforts and work towards getting the project back on track and moving forward.
