PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Last Saturday morning, we held our annual Children's Shopping Spree helping over 40 children have an extra special Christmas. Many thanks to Gene Maszy for chairing this event and to our past President Tyrone Townsend who started our holiday tradition in the mid 1980's.  Most importantly, I want to thank our volunteers for donating their time to this very special giving opportunity and helping us fulfill the kids' Christmas dreams!

What an exciting year our club has had!  Last week, the SBMC Board approved 25 new members, which brought our total to 116 new members in 2012!  Thanks to all your support, our club has enjoyed a tremendous success this year.  THANK YOU!

I hope you will be able to join us for the last SBMC meeting of the year this Wednesday, welcome our newly inducted members, and wish a happy Holiday Season to your SBMC friends.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Quote of the week: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. Wishing you happiness".  -- Helen Keller

MEMBERSHIP CORNER

Happy Holidays to all our members! I am very pleased to report that Membership had a BANNER year, with a record-breaking 116 new members!  Way to go everyone! Thank you to all of you who brought guests, encouraged guests to join, and helped make new members feel welcome. The club has enjoyed such a great year, and now with so many new members joining our ranks, we are poised to have another very successful year in 2013.

I encourage you to get involved, network with all our new and seasoned members, make new friends as well as business connections, find ways to give back to our community, and enjoy all that SBMC membership has to offer. Thanks again for helping to make 2012 one of our best years ever, a warm welcome to all our new members, and a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to all!

CRUMP'S CORNER - SBMC HISTORY

Twelve years ago, last June, the Southside Business Men's Club lost one of its greatest assets. One that the club had not been without for forty-one years. The retirement of Pauline W. Smith. Pauline had served the club out of pure love.   Pauline was recruited by Harry A. Pierce during the presidency of W.A.Weatherford in 1959. She not only did the Secretarial duties but typed, edited and mailed the Southsider weekly newsletter. Recording minutes of all board meetings, and making sure the president did not forget anything. In 1996 when the club voted to allow women members, Pauline was the first woman member. Was a fitting milestone. As "one of her boys" i can truly say that i could not have done my tour of duty without the advice and gentle guidance that Pauline offered. The club has honored Pauline with the founding of the "Pauline W. Smith" Business Scholarship in conjunction with the University of North Florida. In Pauline's own words: "Why should I not love this club?? It has given me memories to last a lifetime!"
