I hope all of you are ready to cast your Vote this Tuesday and work toward finishing 2012 on a positive note and in good spirits.
In most life situations we can determine the kind of experience we are going to have by how we respond to them. I recently re-read one of my all-time favorite books "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. This book was written in 1936 and it is a timeless classic that teaches people how to get along in both social and business environments and offers proven advice for having a balanced and successful life.
Dale Carnegie was very successful in sales, public speaking and leadership; and he was famous for training others to be the same. The book focuses on how people interact and respond to one another and teaches them lessons in life that are not taught at any school. Carnegie has studied famous people; such as, Lincoln, Roosevelt and Charles Schwab and has drawn from them the very essence of what made them legendary leaders of our time.
The book is divided into four sections: Handling People; Getting People to Like You; Getting People to Agree with You; and Being a Leader. Since most of our members deal in a business environment daily, I would like to share here Carnegie's Fundamental Techniques in Handling People:
- Don't criticize, condemn or complain
- Give honest and sincere appreciation
- Arouse in the other person an eager want
Quote of the week: "You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation... Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime." - Dale Carnegie

With Halloween behind us, we are now firmly in the "Holiday Season!" We have some festive activities coming up, so there's never been a better time to make the most of your membership, invite guests and encourage them to join. Remember, we have a contest running through the end of the year, with a cash prize of $1,000 to the member who brings in the most new members. New applications will be approved by the Board next Wednesday, November 14th. Get involved, bring a friend, and enjoy all the camaraderie, service and networking opportunities our club has to offer!
