ESPNW highlights Inter-American Women's Soccer Exchange

Sixteen former NCAA players representing eight conferences across three divisions headed to Nicaragua in February to implement the first phase of a two-way exchange. The first phase took a dual approach of exposing as many girls as possible to soccer through clinics and school visits, and supporting the growth of soccer opportunities for girls through coaches trainings and promotion. The exchange builds on the success of our year-round efforts in Granada by expanding our reach to the cities of Diriamba and Managua. Made possible through the US State Department's SportsUnited Division, in partnership with the US Embassy in Managua and FENIFUT (Nicaraguan Football Federation), the exchange team coached nearly 800 girls, trained more than 45 coaches, and played two friendly matches against the Nicaraguan Women's National Team. Ellery Gould, a former player at Bowdoin, recapped the exchange in this ESPNW feature.  Stay tuned for phase two, an in-depth training around creating a dynamic girls' soccer program for Nicaraguan leaders! The training will take place at SWB Boston and in Hanover, NH this June.

Thanks to the generous support of the FIFA Football for Hope program, SWB USA Program

Leaders gathered in Oakland, CA in early February. The weekend centered around sharing best practices, learning from Core programs, and collaborating on new projects, all with a singular goal: to move SWB USA toward its goal of becoming the leading provider of soccer-based youth development programs for newcomer youth in the USA.

Helping our efforts to achieve this, the US Soccer Foundation will support three of the most crucial aspects of programs: coaching, transportation, and coordination.

Futbol Sin Fronteras Granada (Soccer Without Borders) celebrated its five year anniversary on International Women's Day, March 8th. More than 30 past coaches and volunteers gathered in Granada for a week of reflection, visioning, and fun activities for the girls. Still the only girls-specific space in the city, and the only youth sports program for girls, FSF Granada has grown to five teams, offering on and off-field activities five days per week, year-round. In addition to year-round programming, the program reaches more than 2,000 youth through clinics at schools, and distributes thousands of pounds of equipment through coaches clinics and its unique point system.
