School is starting this next week and we are wondering where the summer vacation has gone! If you haven't already signed up to vote in the Major League Quilting Playoffs, we hope you will do so soon. Twice a week, two beautiful quilts will compete and your vote determines the winner! Our team, the San Francisco "Gigantics" is set to play on August 29th, so we do hope you will check out our Lauren quilt

The Fabric Designs and Creative Process of Marcia Derse...
Fabric Essentials has recently received a shipment of many stunning and unique fabrics designed by Marcia Derse! Some of Marcia's fabrics have an African flavor, others draw from Japanese bamboo paintings, and still others connect to the ebb and flow of nature itself. You will love the combination of colors and variety of textures, and many of the collections cross over with each other perfectly! Patterns by Blue Underground Studios work very well with Marcia's fabric designs. Marcia Derse's Artist Statement
 "I start with a blank canvas; a bolt of muslin, fabric dyes, and the primary colors in silkscreen paints. When I mix, I draw my palette from the seasons or my travels and each new texture is something tactile found in my environment. I gather images and objects everywhere, anything that catches my eye outdoors or in the studio becomes an artist's tool: pine cones, spoons, brushes, homemade stamps, and bamboo pens. I apply paint with abandon, exhausting the cups of paint, trying every combination."
"Each piece of fabric is a new exploration of color, form, and texture. They are paintings in themselves and when I bring them together on a giant white wall in my studio space each piece becomes a landmark or road in the map of the idea I am translating. When I am satisfied by my image from every position in the studio, I begin to make it permanent. I layer each piece with batting and backing before stitching. The criss-crossing lines add to the structure and the layers build themselves until the map recites the colors, textures, shapes, and impressions of my life." - Marcia Derse

 Major League Quilting is a multi-shop online event where each shop will select ONE quilt to compete against the other participating shops. The "American League" teams will play on Monday (vote from Mon-Wed) and the "National League" teams will play on Thursday (vote from Thu-Sun).
It's a little bit of baseball, American Idol, the Voice, Dancing with the Stars kind of thing where YOU vote to determine the winner of each game to advance to the next round.
Fabric Essentials will be playing as "The San Francisco Gigantics" and we hope you'll join us - and VOTE FOR US - to win the Major League Quilting Championship! The playoffs have already begun!
