PM for Social Good®

Greetings!

"PM for social good" means leveraging project management knowledge to touch people's lives.  Around the globe, individuals create and lead innovative programs that allow them to give back to their community as they apply their project management expertise in meaningful ways.  Although their stories -- which both inspire and motivate -- often go untold, you'll read about two unique initiatives in this month's newsletter.  Led by the PMI Chicagoland and Sao Paulo Chapters, these youth-oriented programs support young people's achievement and lifelong success.  PMIEF showcased them at the foundation's standing room only session during the PMI Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in October.

In addition, we're thrilled to announce that we just took the bronze in the 35th Annual Telly Awards for our Donor Welcome Series!  The award recognizes outstanding accomplishment in online video content and cable TV.  We invite you to view our winning video to see what "PM for social good" looks like across the world.

Sincerely,

Your Friends at PMIEF

PMI Volunteers Filled Room to Hear Stories That Inspire and Motivate

PMIEF's liaison session at this year's PMI Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) 2013 -- North America convened PMI members interested to learn about chapters' successful youth programs.  Liaisons Fred Barrett, PMP of the PMI Chicagoland Chapter and Acilio Marinello, PMP of the PMI Sao Paulo Chapter talked about their chapters' work with young people and encouraged session attendees to get involved in their community.

Fred discussed the PMI Chicagoland Chapter's partnership with Ladies of Virtue (LOV), a local nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young women in

PMIEF's liaison session attracted a full room of LIM attendees who wanted to learn about successful youth PM programs.

underserved communities.  LOV participants receive project management training so they, too, can develop and implement community service projects.   He also described the personal satisfaction that Chapter members derive from helping the girls recognize and apply project management as a life skill that will support their long-term success and ongoing civic engagement.

Acilio spoke about the PMI Sao Paulo Chapter's efforts to recruit volunteers on behalf of the Center for Digital Inclusion (CDI), a nongovernmental organization that has integrated project management into its programs for young people.   CDI equips less advantaged youth with the kinds of training and skill development necessary for workforce entry.  Acilio recruited more than 30 volunteers through PMI's Volunteer Relationship Management System to facilitate CDI's youth project management training.  In addition to sharing lessons learned, he described the incredible passion that volunteerism generates.

Both Fred and Acilio also offered practical tips about how best to create a successful -- and sustainable -- youth project management program.   Their presentations will soon be available on the PMIEF website.
