Partnering to Teach Project Management to Young People
| |
Like PMIEF, the PMI Baltimore Chapter recognizes that helping young people acquire project management skills better enables them to achieve success across the lifespan. With this goal in mind, the chapter recently partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) and Morgan State University (MSU) to mentor BBBS youth so that they are well prepared for college and career. PMIEF will support this collaboration by providing its no-cost resources, PM Skills for LifeSM and Careers in Project ManagementSM, for workshops that will begin in October 2013.
Dialogues between PMI Baltimore Chapter President, Eric Perlstein, PMP and Morgan State University faculty spurred the initiative for high school BBBS participants ("Littles"). MSU project management graduate students who, like Littles, grew up in the inner-city will lead workshop instruction and serve as role models. Chapter members will volunteer as mentors ("Bigs") to share their knowledge of the profession even as they raise Littles' awareness about relevant careers. As a result, Littles will not only develop and strengthen project management skills that will support their long-term aspirations, but the chapter will also create a pipeline of future project managers.

New Project Management Toolkit for Teachers™
Available for No-Cost Download | |
PMIEF is pleased to announce its new Project Management Toolkit for Teachers™, an educational resource that's available for no-cost download at www.pmief.org.
Teachers have been integral to the foundation's efforts to impact K-12 education, so we want to provide them with the resources they need to introduce these important concepts to students. This resource will help young people understand and appreciate project management as a life, learning and professional skill.
Step-by-step instructions enable teachers to acquire an understanding of project management, and then to transfer this knowledge to students through engaging, hands-on activities.
You can learn more about the new curriculum in the September issue of PMI Today®. Click here to download your free copy of the toolkit today.
