PM for Social Good®
Greetings!

Welcome to PMIEF's updated newsletter! As we announced in last month's issue, PMIEF has rebranded. We hope you enjoy our new colors, images and logo.  A redesigned website will be released in early 2014 that will also reflect the warmth and brightness of the new design elements, which were selected to reflect the inspirational spirit of PMIEF, its supporters and volunteers.

Continue reading to learn about how a volunteer in the United Kingdom creatively incorporated project management education into the classrooms of young students. It's volunteers who keep us inspired, and we hope this month's story inspires you as well.

Sincerely,

Your friends at the PMI Educational Foundation

UK STUDENTS LEARN PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project management teaches organization, interpersonal, and communication skills. How then, can we ensure that students benefit from project management education, even before they begin university studies?

A student plans his classroom project for the pilot program

Simon Robertson, PMP and PMI United Kingdom (UK)

Chapter PMIEF Liaison, wondered the same thing, and decided to start a pilot program at a local school.  To do so, Simon developed a team of teachers, consultants and PMI members, who used

PMIEF grant funding, PMIEF materials, and creativity to

develop a pilot academic program for 120 eleven year olds.

The students in the pilot program worked in teams to

plan, organize, budget and model an Olympic stadium in a competition with their classmates for the best design.

When asked what they thought of the program, students noted that it helped them to plan projects better and become more confident in their work.  Simon's program illustrates that project management programs can help children to learn important life skills and prepare them for a future of personal, academic and professional success.  Read more about the UK pilot program here
