Teaching Project Management Can Change Lives
Rio de Janerio and Sao Paulo, BRAZIL |
A non-governmental organization, the Center for Digital Inclusion (CDI) is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and works in regions around the world where individuals lack access to technology. CDI believes that giving youth access to technology can help break the cycle of poverty and prepare them for employment and future success in life. CDI began partnering with PMIEF in 2011 to address poverty-related issues by teaching technology and project management skills. |
CDI gives youth access to technology

In partnership with PMIEF, this semester CDI began using its own methodology alongside PMIEF's Project Management Skills for LifeSM resource in Sao Paulo secondary school classrooms. Volunteers from the PMI Sao Paulo, Brazil Chapter are actively involved in teaching the material to show students how to use project management concepts in order to effectively take action and solve problems. PMIEF provided funding to support the program and translate the PM Skills for Life resource into Brazilian Portuguese.
Thiago Nascimento, CDI's institutional development officer, believes such training helps people take charge of their lives. "Some of these populations expect the government to help them get out of the cycle of poverty. Instead, project management inspires action and teaches people to work together to solve problems," he says.
In 2011, the first grant form PMIEF helped CDI train 77 students in Sao Paulo and 19 students in Rio. This semester, 24 students will participate in the "Skills for Life - Project Management Skills" course.
