Lockheed Martin is an American global aerospace defense,
security and advanced technology company with 133,000
employees worldwide, 17,000 in Florida and more than 850 in Ocala. The Ocala Operations is a system assembly and high-rate production facility. It manufactures electronic assemblies for
commercial, defense and space applications. Additionally, Ocala performs assembly and testing for various Missiles and Fire Control programs.
Lockheed Martin was on a fast track to find, interview, train and hire 30 new first and second-shift Electronics Associates to perform bench assemblies and sub-assemblies. The process would require training, hand-eye coordination testing and security clearance. Successful candidates also needed to score a"4" or better on the Florida Ready-to-Work assessment in applied mathematics, reading for information and ability to locate information.
Workforce Connection collected and screened resumes for 251 candidates, proctored Florida Ready-to-Work assessments to all suitable candidates and then facilitated Lockheed's application process. Following successful completion of their training, Workforce Connection reimbursed a large portion of the training costs through a Custom Business Training grant. Lockheed Martin is in the process of making job offers to 30 candidates for what will be the company's third training class, of varying sizes, using Workforce Connection's recruitment and Custom Business Training grants.
"Workforce Connection has been instrumental in supporting the new hire training at the Lockheed Martin Ocala facility," said Shirley Foster, Multiple Function Quality Manager. "The support from their staff has been vital to the swift completion of the submission and processing of the Employed Worker (Custom Business) Training grant application. Their guidance on obtaining the necessary data has been invaluable."
