I know we are all busy. Most of us have more to do with fewer resources and our "to do" list just doesn't get any smaller. Okay everyone, it is time for us (me) to take the busy-ness out of our jam-packed days. How can we get Workforce Connection to take on some of those planning/recruiting/training tasks that we are moving forward on week-to-week? Of course, we know we can post our open positions on the Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) at no charge. But how about trying some of the other employer features available at www.employflorida.com? Those include information on recruitment and education services as well as labor market information and employer incentives and tax credits.
Workforce Connection professional staff services for employers include the following: * Employee recruitment and screening * Posting job openings on local, state and national websites * Receiving and forwarding applicant resumes * Prescreening and referral of qualified job seekers * Tax credit information * Labor market information * Labor law compliance information * Additional resources on issues that affect employers Do you need upwards of 100 new hires ready to hit the ground running, as several of our recent Employer Success Stories have? Or are trying to find one perfect employee like Southeastern ChemTreat's (read the spotlight below)?
If so, take a look through your to-do list. See if Workforce Connection can take some of the busy-ness out of your day and provide you with professional quality services at no charge. Our tax dollars pay for these resources. Let's use them to increase our productivity, grow our businesses, and create jobs and prosperity for our community!

Spotlight: Southeastern ChemTreat
'Dive in, the talent pool is wide and deep'
When a small, family-run company becomes very successful, with projects stretching from the Florida Panhandle to the Keys, the business of running the business can at times feel like a full-time job in and of itself.
That was the case for Southeastern ChemTreat, Inc. (SCI)'s president and founder, Will Hardee. Hardee, who was juggling the day-to-day operations of his 25-year-old company as well as his primary responsibilities, was keen to find an office manager, to "free me up to get back out in the field and on job sites more."
Find out how Hardee says Workforce Connection saved SCI time, money and the "aggravation of going through stacks of people who weren't serious candidates" to find the one who was.

Vets Stand Down and Youth Build Projects
Homeless Veterans Stand Down
Workforce Connection's first annual Stand Down took place Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Florida National Guard Armory in Ocala. The event was sponsored by the Workforce Connection Veterans Team in collaboration with 43 area veteran and community organizations. The Stand Down provided one-stop access to myriad community/human services for homeless vets and their families. Services included job placement, housing, health screenings and counseling as well as nonperishable food, clothing, blankets and other supplies. Hot meals were also served. A total of 78 homeless veterans benefited from the event, some attending from as far away as Inglis by virtue of free transportation provided in Citrus and Levy counties. The Stand Down was funded by a $5,000 Veterans Stand Down Grant from the National Veterans Homeless Support, Inc. (NVHS) and the Florida Department of children and Families (DCF). The event was covered by WCJB TV20 and the Star-Banner as well as promoted on WTRS Conversation Radio, WOCA Voice of Ocala and other media outlets.
Phoenix Rising Youth Build Wall Raising
The latest youth build project kicked off Feb. 3 on a bright, chilly Sunday morning with the raising of the walls, adding the beginnings of a 10th home to the neat row of Habitat for Humanity houses in Phoenix Place. The 14 Phoenix Rising candidates were assisted by members of the Church of Hope on the project -- the fourth youth build project in two years. The build portion of the project followed a month of classroom instruciton which began on Jan. 7.
Through Phoenix Rising, disadvantaged older youth obtain academic and construction skills, increase their self-esteem, and get a new perspective on life. The project also helps the community and provides a home for deserving homeowners.
The project was spearheaded by the Ocala Police Department in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Workforce Connection, the City of Ocala, Henkels & McCoy and myriad other community partners. Workforce Connection provides funding for the initiative from the US Department of Labor earmarked for training and employment.
