New Pageant Strives to Bridge Inter-generational Gap and Alleviate Financial Burden for College Bound Teens
The first annual Lady Pearl Pageant and Mentorship Program is now accepting applications from influential women in North Carolina. Unlike a traditional beauty contest, this pageant will feature ladies who have more than five and a half decades of strength, courage and wisdom running through their veins. As grandmothers, mothers, aunts, neighbors and friends, these women have led and improved their communities. In addition to the pageant, contestants will participate in the Lady Pearl Mentorship Program. This one-month program connects each aspiring Lady Pearl with a young woman in high school. During their month together, mentors and mentees will meet for a minimum of three hours per week to share knowledge, experience and culture. After the pageant, mentees of the winner and runner-up will each receive a scholarship. Pageant founder and director, Tatiana M. Alexander said, "As a woman, I think it's important that we make ourselves available to celebrate and support past and future generations. My hope is this pageant and mentorship program will provide a sounding board to inspire, uplift and empower both types of seniors." In honor of Women's History month, the Lady Pearl Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, March 19 at the Durham Arts Council's PSI Theatre. The application deadline for both contestants and mentees is Friday, January 22. Applications, sponsorship opportunities, and additional information can be found by visiting www.ladypearlllc.com or calling 818-925-5239. | | |
