2013 Recycling Program
The Northfield Township Road District garage, located at 1928 Lehigh Avenue, Glenview, is open for recycling drop off, Monday - Friday, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Residents can just pull up to the front of the building, ring the bell and a member of the Road District staff will unload their cars.
The 2013 recycling season ends on Friday, November 15th. Some of the items accepted at the Road District garage include: household paint (oil and latex, limited to 10 one-gallon cans or two five-gallon buckets), cell phones, pagers, computer software and hardware, metal and more.
Through a partnership with the Village of Northbrook accepted recyclables can be dropped off at the garage behind Northbrook Village Hall on Cedar. Visit www.northbrook.il.us for times, dates and a complete list of items that are accepted for recycling.
Household Hazardous Waste Program
In addition to the Road District's daily recycling program, Highway Commissioner Peter Amarantos, through an agreement with Heritage Environmental Services, will host two Household Hazardous Waste recycling drop off events for Township residents to safely dispose of their unwanted household cleaning and maintenance products. Our HHW program is a way in which we can offer homeowners of Northfield Township an alternative to disposal of the chemicals in a landfill. The Road District has made it simple. On May 16 & 17 and September 26 & 27 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., Northfield Township residents can drop off accepted household chemical waste at the Road District garage. Identification will be checked to confirm residency.
The following items will be accepted: antifreeze, cleaning products that are consumer commodities only, charcoal lighter fluid, driveway sealer (limit of two five-gallon buckets), drain cleaners, paint thinners and gasoline in approved/original containers only, insecticides and herbicides.
- No medical waste of any kind
- No pool chemical
- No business/commercial waste accepted
- All items must in original containers
At the collection site, Road District employees will help unload cars, segregate and repackage the waste in accordance with DOT and EPA regulations. The material will then be transported to the Heritage Environmental Services facility for proper disposal/recycling.
Special Recycling Program
The Road District will host special one-day recycling events throughout the Township. In addition to the items regularly accepted for recycling, residents will have opportunities to take advantage of on-site, secure paper shredding. Residents are limited to a maximum of three containers, such as shopping bags or computer boxes, per person, of paper to be shredded. All of these special events will be held on Saturdays unless otherwise noted.
