Seed Cuticle Research
Researchers at the University of Geneva (UNIGE), Switzerland, have just discovered that the cuticle which is present as a thick waxy layer in the seed coat contributes to maintaining seeds' dormant state. It also increases seeds' viability and resistance to reactive oxygen species which can damage cell structures. These experiments provide evidence that maintaining the thick layer of cutin is essential to the survival and propagation of the seed. Read more HERE.
