PROGRAM 
 

8:30-9:00 a.m.     Registration with coffee and muffins.

 

Juvenility in Plants.  Brent McCown, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. Learn what plant juvenility is and the impact it has on plant production. 

 

Propagation and Production of Native Wisconsin Oaks.  Mike Yanny, JN Plant Selections, Johnson's Nursery, Menomonee Falls, WI.  Mike will describe the screening and production processes he uses to develop superior tree strains selected for use in alkaline soils. All of this from local genotype plant materials!  

 

Micropropagation - The only way to get thousands quickly. Elizabeth Dunham, Knight Hollow Nursery, Middleton, WI.  Liz will explain how micropropagation is used to rapidly multiply stock plant material to produce a large number of progeny plants, using modern plant tissue culture methods. 

 

Insects in the NurseryChris Williamson, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.  As an extension specialist and professor, Chris will share his experience on key insect pest identification and management in the nursery.

 

Perennial BrandingLiesl Thomas, W. & E. Radtke, Inc., Germantown, WI. Branding of plants will be explored - the competition, the consumer confidence, the marketing, the production costs and more.   

 

Lunch with an Overview of McKay Nursery by Tom Bergen, Wholesale Sales Manager

 

Tour of McKay Nursery  

The afternoon tour will highlight McKay's unique cover crop of radishes as well as their field grown ornamental and container plants.
