Message from the Bishop:
The Death of The Rev. Charles Crane

Bishop Bob
Aloha,

I received word yesterday evening that the Reverend Charles Tarleton Crane died on December 7th in Sedona, Arizona, where he was living in retirement. Charlie died of liver cancer at the age of 87 and just shy of the 58th anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood (on December 23, 1957, in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, by Bishop Harry Kennedy).  He served on the staff of the Cathedral from 1957 to 1959.  He was Rector of All Saints Church, Kapaʻa, from 1959 to 1966. He then served as the Rector of the Church of the Holy Nativity, Aina Haina, from 1966 until his retirement in 1988.  Services will be held on December 15, 2015, at Christ Lutheran (ELCA) Church, Sedona, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Ms. Marilyn Snyder.  Notes of condolence may be sent to her at 405 Jacks Canyon Rd, #204; Sedona, AZ 86351.

Almighty God, with whom still live the spirits of those who die in the Lord, and with whom the souls of the faithful are in joy and felicity: We give you heartfelt thanks for the good example of your servant, Charlie, who, having finished his course in faith, now finds rest and refreshment. May we, with all who have died in the true faith of your holy Name, have perfect fulfillment and bliss in your eternal and everlasting glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

+Bob

Usher Orientation and Training Workshop

All Saints' will be holding an Usher Orientation and Training Workshop on Saturday, December 12, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM, for all current ushers and those interested in serving in this vital ministry. All ushers are urged to attend the workshop.

The ministry of welcome and connection is the lifeblood of growing our Church. Ushering is far more than handing out service programs and leis. When visitors arrive at All Saints' an usher is typically the first person to greet them. Ushers play an essential role in orienting visitors to All Saints', our worship services, our rich history and our beautiful island.

Ushers also support the worship experience and serve as an ambassador and liaison for the Vestry and Clergy on Sunday morning. Please consider this ministry. Anyone can be an usher and all are encouraged to attend the workshop. If you have any questions, please see Fr. Ryan or Mary Margaret Smith.

"Pulpit Exchange":
Rev. Mary at All Saints' this Sunday, December 13
The Rev. Mary Tudela, who is currently serving as Interim Rector at St. Michael and All Angels, and Fr. Ryan, have organized a "pulpit exchange" during Advent 3. Rev. Mary will be the preacher and celebrant this Sunday at All Saints', and Fr. Ryan will be preaching and celebrating at St. Michael's and All Angels.

The goal of the pulpit exchange is to give both congregations a shared experience during the season of Advent hearing two different preaching voices on the implications of John the Baptist's ministry of preparing the way for our Lord and Savior. The Gospel readings for Advent 2 and Advent 3 have been combined and are being offered together on both Sundays. Collectively, these passages set the prophetic ministry of John the Baptist who preaches repentance to all those who hear his call to baptism, and tells them of the mighty one to come.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AT ALL SAINTS':
All Saints' Holiday Craft Fair a Huge Success!

This year's annual Holiday Craft Fair was the largest ever held at All Saints', with 74 booth spaces featuring some of the finest crafters and bakers on the island! Despite a few sprinkles, customers continued to flow in and out the entire time, to the delight of the vendors. Pictured below, Morris Wise, Mary Margaret Smith and Glenn Sato put the finishing touches on their booths before the start of the fair.

This event is the Ke Akua Youth Group's largest fundraiser of the year, which supports their mission and outreach activities. The Silent Auction, which features donated items from vendors, raised over $700 that will benefit the youth's charity of choice this year--- Laundry Love!!!

Huge thanks go to the ladies of the ECW, who stepped in to help in the food booth filling in for missing youth members who had previous commitments. Remaining youth members worked up a sweat setting up early, servicing vendors, and breaking down after a long day. Parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties worked hard alongside them to help make the event such a huge success. The food booth raised nearly $1,000 that will be going to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life next Spring.

The booth fees, totaling well over $2,000, goes directly to fund the youth group's mission trips and activities, and they are looking forward to a possible service trip to O'ahu next summer.
Special thanks to Senior Warden David Murray and Bill Brown for making the last minute run to pick up tables at St. Michael's, and to Fr. Ryan for his expertise with the sound system. Free from crutches for the first time in weeks, he hobbled around to make sure there was music and to assist as best he could.

Thanks to the entire church family for supporting the activities of the youth group. Your support and generosity serves as a valuable example of Jesus' love, that helps to shape our next generation. Mahalo nui loa!
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE DIOCESE & OUR COMMUNITY:
Presiding Bishop and Primate Resting After Surgery
Office of Public Affairs [December 8, 2015]  Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop and Primate Michael Curry is resting comfortably following surgery in a Virginia hospital on Tuesday, December 8.   According to the Presiding Bishop, his family, and his medical team, the surgery went well, as had been expected. Bishop Curry is alert and awake, and a full recovery continues to be anticipated.

Presiding Bishop Curry was taken to the hospital Sunday, December 6 after a visitation to Bruton Parish Church in Colonial Williamsburg, VA.
Presiding Bishop Curry and his family are touched by the outpouring of prayers and well wishes. In their thankfulness, they ask for privacy during his recovery.

During a Eucharist today at the Chapel of Christ Our Lord, 815 Second Ave., New York City, Bishop Stacy Sauls, Chief Operating Officer and the Presiding Bishop's chief of staff, offered the following prayer:

Precious Lord, take our hands, lead us on, let us stand. Let us stand today that we might better praise you. Let us stand that we might better hear you. Let us stand that we might better see you in the face of our neighbor. Let us stand that we might better embrace those who need you today.  Let us stand that we might better feed those who hunger today. Let us stand that we might better serve the needy today.  Let us stand that we might better clothe the naked today. Let us stand that we might better walk to visit the sick and free the captives and proclaim the good news of salvation to the ends of the earth today and every day. Let us stand today, even though we know you are doing for us better things that we can ask or imagine, to seek your presence with Michael and among us. Strengthen him on this day of his surgery. Guide those who care for him on your behalf in the hospital. And bring us all together again in your way and in your time that we can live lives of gratitude and love from this day onward.  It is in your holy name that we pray. Amen.
(Inspired by Songs My Grandma Sang by Michael B. Curry)

Bishop Sauls noted that further information will continue to be released by the Presiding Bishop's office, although further updates are not expected until Friday.
