PICTURE OF THE WEEK:
Mahalo Elaine!

Pictured above, our resident lei maker, Aunty Elaine Tamura, tries to hide from the limelight in the safety of Joe Adorno's arms, during Fr. Wil's aloha speech this past Sunday. Fr. Wil was thanking Elaine for the beautiful lei she received.

As some know, Elaine has been providing the lovely fresh flower leis that adorn our priests every Sunday for decades, including special guests and choir members on certain occasions. It's a labor of love-- her incredible ministry to the church-- creating stunning leis with flowers grown in her back yard, and never accepting a penny for these beautiful creations.

Even during challenging times when faced with debilitating health issues, Elaine makes sure there is a lei for the priest to be worn on Sunday. The Ohai Ali'i flowers are especially difficult to sew with its fragile blossoms and tiny stems, and require a specially crafted needle. Daughter Faith Shiramizu helps her to collect the various flowers that are carefully sorted and stored.

Mahalo nui loa Elaine for blessing us with your lovely leis, generous heart and beautiful smile!

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as
you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength,
so you never forsake those who make their boast of your
mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
