Message from Fr. Ryan: Our New Senior Warden

Dear All Saints' 'Ohana,
As most of you know, since Janet Wilson left for Florida to take a job promotion, the role of senior warden has been vacant. The senior warden plays a vital role working in partnership with the rector leading the vestry and shepherding the church.
I am happy to share with our All Saints' 'Ohana that David Murray has accepted the call to serve as the senior warden for at least the next six months and possibly longer.
I first met David when I was interviewing to be the rector. Over the years, David and I have established a great professional and personal relationship. He is a faithful and compassionate servant for Christ. David brings to the role a wealth of church and professional leadership. David loves All Saints'--- it is evident in everything he does. The church, especially your rector, will be blessed by David's sound wisdom, discerning heart, kindhearted style, and delightful humor.
Mahalo to David for accepting the call to serve as senior warden. We welcome you with our love and prayers. Cheers!
Faithfully in Christ,
The Reverend Ryan D. Newman

This month's theme is all about food, and we are inviting food vendors to participate for FREE!  It's a great way for vendors to share their fare with the community, especially new businesses who would like to get the word out and show folks what you have! All food vendors are welcome that may include food trucks, bakers, shave ice, coffee vendors, and any others offering up delectable delights!

Of course our regular group of talented crafters, service and swap meet vendors will be on hand, along with E-Waste collection, so get ready to indulge is some great food fare, find some wonderful items or a bargain or two, and then relax with an incredible step massage under the cool shade of our tree deck!

Remember that non-profit organizations, including youth sports teams, always participate for free, and can include a car wash, bake sale, food booth and informational displays.  Space is limited, so apply early!

Seeking E-Waste Collector for September & October
We are so grateful to Cece Caldwell for being such a committed E-Waste collector at the Saturday Markets! Unfortunately, the Caldwell's will be leaving for a few months for Bill's surgery, and we are looking for anyone willing to cover the E-Waste collection in September and October.

A truck is preferred so folks can easily drop off their electronics, which is then taken to the County Recycle station in Lihue.  They have workers there that unload it for you so you don't have to worry about lifting.  If you are willing and able, please e-mail or see David Murray or Sybil Nishioka.
August Special Collections for Hale Ho'omalu
canned goods During the month of August, the ladies of the ECW will be making a special collection of canned goods to include tuna, fruit, vegetables, ravioli and spaghetti, for Hale Ho'omalu, a family services center located a half-block away from the church.  Donations of other canned and packaged goods are always welcome as well as monetary gifts. All donations can be left in the red wagon at the church entrance every Sunday.
Save the Date! Sunday, October 11
Celebrating Our Holy Sovereigns

All Saints' has been celebrating our Holy Sovereigns, King Kamehameha IV & Queen Emma, for the past several years during the month of October.  Although the actual feast day is in November, it has become a tradition at All Saints' to hold it on the second Sunday of October, and this year it will be on October 11.  Save the date and be sure to attend this beautiful service and reception afterwards.
Volunteer Sign Up Sheets at Sunday Services!

If you'd like to volunteer for Laundry Love Kauai that takes place every first and third Wednesdays of the month, sign-up in the Laundry Love Manual that will be on the entrance table during Sunday services. Folks can sign up to volunteer for specific dates and roles on the volunteer sign-up sheets, and also peruse the operating instructions that contain the responsibilities for each role.

A few volunteers have already decided which roles they like best, and others are still trying out different areas. Even if all roles are taken on a specific date you are interested in helping at, please show up and help as a Love Ambassador. (There is no limit to the number of Love Ambassadors at any session.) These are our all-around workers who not only interact with patrons, but are key to the smooth flow of the operation, transferring laundry from one area to another.  Love Ambassadors are especially needed to help with folding and bagging when a load is done.

All are welcome to take part in this rewarding outreach ministry. For more information, visit the LLK webpage HERE.

Our monthly work day took place on Saturday, August 22, and members were hard at work with the usual cleaning and polishing!  This month, work also continued in the Music Director's room, with caulking and painting. Pictured above, Nora Takenouchi makes sure the church windows are squeaky clean; Cece Caldwell sorts through the mountains of recyclable plastic; Fay Hanaoka prepares the windows for painting.  Below, John Hanaoka, Robyn Putman and Linda Crocker work hard in the Music Director's room.  (Photos by Marge Akana)
