Deadline This Sunday for the Prize Drawing!
Have you completed your Church Member Profile Form?
All Saints' is updating its member profiles and this Sunday, May 17, is the deadline to turn in your Church Member Profile Form in order to be entered in the prize drawing being held during both services! If you haven't already turned it in, bring it in this Sunday so your name can be put in the basket!

Forms will continue to be accepted even after the drawing. Be sure to take a moment to complete the form that will be used to update information we may already have on file, and to fill in other information that we don't have such as your contact information, birthdate, baptism/confirmation dates, etc. If for some reason you did not receive a form, please let Chris Wataya know by e-mailing her, or call the church office at 822-4267.  Mail or drop them off at the office.
Regional Confirmation Service
Saturday, May 23

On Saturday, May 23, 2015, All Saints' will host the Regional Confirmation Service for the island of Kaua'i, celebrated with Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick. This annual service brings together all the Episcopal Churches on the island that include Christ Memorial, St. Michael and All Angels and the Episcopal Churches of West Kaua'i. Although All Saints' has no candidates this year, be sure to attend this special service that will include great music, worship, fellowship, and the celebration of the newly confirmed, received or reaffirmed. A reception will follow and will be catered.
Get your RED ready!
Pentecost Sunday coming up May 24
Pentecost
Coming up soon is Pentecost Sunday which marks the end of the Easter Season.  The Church will be dressed in red as we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension, held on the seventh Sunday after Easter. So get out your red, and get ready to celebrate!
Summer Sunday School Volunteers Needed

Sunday, May 31, will be the last day of regular Sunday school for the church year, and Summer Sundays will begin. If you enjoy working with children, we could use your help! We are looking for a few volunteers to help with Summer Sundays on a rotation basis during the months of June, July and August. Instead of regular Bible lessons, Summer Sundays will involve Christian crafts, games and Bible story-time. No experience necessary. If you are interested, please see Sybil or e-mail her at halelani@hawaiiantel.net.
New Ministry to Kick-off on June 17

All Saints' newest outreach ministry will be kicking off in June.  12 years ago, the idea for Laundry Love was sparked from a conversation with a homeless man in Ventura County, CA. "If I had clean clothes I think people would treat me like a human being."  From this simple statement, Laundry Love was born and has now spread nationwide, offering laundry services to the poor and homeless.

All Saints' has partnered up with Laundry Love to provide this service to our community here in Kapa'a, at the laundromat behind the Shell Service Station and next to Ace Hardware.  Twice a month on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, volunteers will offer to wash, dry and fold laundry to all who come, and spend some time to get to know our neighbors who may be struggling, just a little better.  Details are being worked out.  If you would like to volunteer in this ministry, a sign-up sheet will be available at the Church entrance table, or fill out the form on the new webpage HERE

Seventh Sunday of Easter: The Sunday After Ascension Day

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,

in glory everlasting. Amen.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AT ALL SAINTS':
Youth Retreat: Having Fun and Preparing for Service

The KeAkua Youth Group spent the first weekend of May in Kalihiwai Valley at the home of Sybil Nishioka, the Family Ministries leader. For over 10 years, Kalihiwai has been a place for many youth retreats both for fun and relaxation, and in more recent years, to prepare for mission and debriefing upon their return. "Aunty" Jan Hashizume, pictured in the kayak at right, has been a chaperone on numerous youth events, and was also at the retreat.

Although the youth were originally scheduled to perform mission work on O'ahu this summer, that trip has been postponed so that this young group can better prepare and equip themselves for the challenges that mission can present. Proper training, group bonding and a better understanding of the people they are serving are crucial. In the meantime, they will take an active role in the new Laundry Love program, and plan to partner up with another local ministry to feed the homeless in our community. Both of these programs will help them to "get their feet wet" in really ministering to those in need, and to be able to offer conversation, a smile, and helping hand.

With Hawai'i recently presented with the unflattering statistic of having the most homeless per capita in the nation, the need for service to the needy and marginalized is greater than ever. Back in 2012, the youth group served in Los Angeles Skid Row, where it was known as the homeless capitol of America. In 2013, they served on O'ahu in various shelters and soup kitchens, but the most troubling site was tending to the families with very young children on the Waianae Coast. The problem of homelessness appears to be growing with no end in sight. This young group of youth are committed to continuing their mission by serving the needy, and to be able to make a difference in someone's life, if even for a day.

If you know of any youth in middle school and high school that may be interested in joining the group, e-mail Sybil at halelani@hawaiiantel.net.
Mother's Day Saturday Market Attracts New Vendors

Our monthly Saturday Market and Swap Meet continues to grow, with more and more long-term vendors signing up for this event. Last Saturday's market on May 9, saw its largest numbers yet, thanks to the Mother's Day theme and special set-up that allowed vendors without tents to set up on the lanai and under the church tent. Although the morning started off blustery, it soon turned into a picture perfect day! Our Step-Massage Vendor was back offering folks a chance to relax under the shade on the tree deck (David Murray is pictured above center), and all sorts of creative and beautiful crafts, orchids, jewelry, and accessories were on display. The Lihue Pinto All-Stars, a baseball team with young member Joshua Rego and the Arruda boys, were kept busy washing cars and feeding hungry shoppers.

Next month, June 13, the theme will be all about sports and our dads, and will return to the regular Saturday Market layout!  We are inviting vendors selling sports-related items to participate for free! Stay tuned for more info, or visit our Saturday Market webpage HERE.
Happy Mothers' Day!

There was a lot to celebrate on Sunday, May 10th--- Fr. Ryan and Dr. Erin were back from vacation, and of course, it was Mother's Day! The Ke Akua Youth Group presented goody bags they made during their retreat, to all the moms at both services, but it was during the 9:30 service that brought tears to many moms in the pews. Each of the youth shared their love and appreciation to their moms and to those that were like moms to them.

Following the second service, a potluck buffet (that was supposed to be prepared by the men-folk) was served up.  Lots of food, laughter and love were shared! (See the picture of the week collage of moms with their kids!)
