Aloha & Mahalo Annalise!

After nearly three months on the Garden Island, our intern, Annalise Castro, heads back to Virginia Theological Seminary to resume her studies. This past Sunday was her last Sunday with us (for now--- and hopefully not really her last). In the few short months she spent at All Saints', Annalise took part in a number of activities and events including a baptism, Fr. Ryan's special anniversary service and our Senior Sunday service, our first 'Aha Mele concert, dodgeball, futsal, a number of potlucks including our 4th of July BBQ, a baby shower she helped plan, and tons more!  She also got to see the sights of Kaua'i and relax on its golden beaches.

We are deeply grateful for her gentle yet powerful presence, the insight she brought to our members through her sermons, and the hope she represents as a young adult and woman discerning her call into the priesthood.  Aloha, mahalo nui loa, and God be with you always Annalise... come back again soon!
At this past Sunday's services, it was announced that Senior Warden Janet Wilson will be leaving us soon. We are so grateful for her gracious presence and years of service to the church.  We wish her well in her new job and home in Florida:
A Message From Our Senior Warden

Mary_Janet

Aloha All,

I deliver this news with mixed emotions and a heavy heart. I have accepted a promotion with my company that means I'll be leaving this beautiful island and my beloved All Saints' ohana.  I will be relocating to Orlando, FL at the end of September for my new job.  I would have liked to have told each and every one of you personally, however in order to expedite the news to everyone, I was unable to do so.

I cannot begin to describe the difficulty in making this decision and hope you all realize that the primary reason for that difficulty was because of my All Saints' family.  Some of the factors that led me to accept the promotion were that I would be closer to my other family - brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.  I also am ready for new challenges in my career, which this position will bring.  I hope that you all understand this decision and ask for your prayers as this transition unfolds.  My love for God and my ever growing faith are because of All Saints and you all will forever be in my heart.  As you know, I love to travel so I'm already planning my return trip to Kauai to see you.

With love and sadness,

Janet Wilson

Work Day this Saturday, August 23
Now moved to "Fourth" Saturdays!
Workday 2013
Now that Saturday Markets have moved to second Saturdays of the month, church work days have moved to the fourth Saturday of the month! Be sure to come by this Saturday, August 23, from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. We'll be cleaning the church windows, reorganizing the gym rooms for storage above Hale Lani, prepping the Sunday school classrooms for the new school year, and other general cleaning and straightening.
Our super "Davids": David Murray in
center and David Crocker at far right.
A big shout out to our Buildings & Grounds leader, David Crocker, who just returned from a month-long mainland visit. David, who took over most of the B&G responsibilities from another superhuman "David" (Murray), works tirelessly to keep our buildings maintained, doing both small and large repair and renovation work. We are so blessed to have this "Jack-of-all-trades" in our midst!

We give endless thanks to all of the many regulars (a few pictured above) who show up each month to keep the church in ship shape! Kudos also to Nadine Nakamura who recently reorganized and labeled the entire gym kitchen! What an awesome job!!!  Hope to see you all on Saturday!

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AT ALL SAINTS':
EYE'14 Presentation & Senior Sunday

The youth were up bright and early on Sunday, August 10, whipping up eggs, sausages, hash browns and other ono fare for their breakfast presentation to the congregation.  Breakfast was served between the two services, and it was a small gesture to thank their All Saints' 'ohana for their incredible support of their activities, and to share in two special occasions.

The youth that attended the Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) and Urban Mission in Philadelphia last month, put on a presentation about their trip. A video recapped this event and each shared a reflection about their experience. Although one participant, Cassie Wilson, had just left for college the night before, she was well-represented and her reflection shared with everyone. Pictured above are Cassidy, Casey, Grace, Mason, Noah, Alanna and Casey on behalf of Cassie. The video about EYE and mission is available for viewing on both the church website HERE or Vimeo, and full article with photos on the Diocesan website.

It was also Senior Sunday, when recent high school graduates are recognized and blessed before they head off to college. It's always a bittersweet time as we say good-bye to these bright young adults who leave the nest and spread their wings. Fr. Ryan put together a beautiful service that included Liturgy and music centered around this occasion. Pictured above are some of the seniors: Alanna Bauman, Cassidy Yatsko and Casey Nakamura, being blessed by Fr. Ryan. Cassie Wilson just headed off to college in Indiana, and Joni Hashizume was on a family cruise, but they were definitely there in spirit (and "paper"). We learned just that morning that Ahlexis Vicente had also left for Arizona.

Special Note from Sybil Nishioka: As the Family Ministries leader, I especially want to thank the parents (and uncles and aunties) who are right there alongside these youth, working so hard to support them in all of their endeavors. Many of the community events we put on could not be done without that support. More importantly, it is a wonderful display of unconditional love that sets an example for them as they continue to grow and have families of their own. It is said that it "takes a village to raise a child" but at the heart of it is the family. A heartfelt mahalo to all the parents and the All Saints' 'ohana for raising up our youth and lifting them to the power and glory of God. (Photos by Janece Yatsko)
