TONIGHT!!! Friday, September 20
Second Movie Night on the Lawn!
Come on down at Sundown!
Our first movie night of the year this past Saturday saw record numbers with over 300 people gathering under the stars! Due to a minor technical glitch, the first show started a little late, but the youth group's food concession filled the gap and also made record sales!
Folks beginning to gather for the first show on Saturday, September 14.
Tonight Friday, September 20, will be our second of three movie nights featuring The Adventures of Tintin and The Great Gatsby--- come for one or stay for both!!! Movies will start on time at sundown... second show to start around 8:30 pm. The food booth will have more of the same yummy dollar dogs, chili, SPAM musubi, popcorn, loaded hot chocolate and more, PLUS vegetarian chili! (Heads up--- The last movie night on September 27, will feature Wayne's onolicious Portuguese Bean Soup!!!)

Movie nights are always double-feature films on a giant 30' screen! Coming up next Friday, September 27 is Despicable Me and Ironman 3! Bust out the lawn chairs and gozas, bring your appetites, and SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Great Gathering at the first Stewardship Meeting
Second Meeting this Sunday, September 22
hands_hearts_hdr.jpg
The first Stewardship meeting of the program year was held this past Sunday, with a great showing of ten people. Several more interested persons were unable to attend but there will be a second meeting this Sunday, September 22, after the 9:30 service refreshments in Memorial Hall. All are welcome to attend... whether you are curious or have stories or ideas to share.   Absolutely no prior involvement is necessary!

During the first meeting, the theme "Sharing Our Joy" was selected. Vestry member, Bill Caldwell, has taken on the responsibility of leading the Stewardship Committee during this program year. Bill and his wife CeCe, will be attending the Diocesan Stewardship Retreat at Camp Mokule'ia later this month, and will surely share their experience, information, and ideas for an invigorating stewardship campaign.

As you may recall, last year's campaign involved home visits. This year, it has been decided to do small gatherings at "our" home... the rectory! Fr. Ryan has transformed the living room area into a beautiful gathering place for church meetings and receptions.

The tentative schedule and dates for the small group gatherings are:
  • Sunday, October 6: 4:00 - 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday, October 16: 5:30 - 7:30 pm
  • Sunday, October 20: 4:00 - 6:00 pm
  • Sunday, November 3: Ingathering and blessing of the pledge cards
If you have any questions, contact the church office at 822-4267.

Ke Akua Youth Group Welcomes New Faces

The Ke Akua Youth Group held their first meeting of the program year on Sunday, September 15. With recent graduates and missioners off to college, the group has a brand new dynamic with a number of new faces in the mix! We are excited at the energy and enthusiasm of this group, and look forward to a very active year ahead that include two more movie nights in September, plans for a retreat in October, continuing futsal year-round, plans for a youth Bible Study group with Fr. Ryan, serving at the KIA Thanksgiving Luncheon, and rounding out 2013, the annual Holiday Craft Fair! In 2014, they are looking forward to doing Relay for Life again, and the high school youth attending the triennial Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) in Philadelphia, PA. AMEN!!!

Pictured above, members gather around the All Birthday Birthday Cakes, a tradition at first meetings where everyone celebrates their birthday... ironically, the one member whose birthday actually fell on this date was absent, wrapping up a visit to Colorado--- Happy Birthday Cassidy! Front: Raiden, Grace, Joni, Daileen; Back: Braden, Mason, Casey, Cassie, Alanna, Noah.

We are actively seeking a few dedicated volunteers to help oversee and coordinate this community event. If you are interested in becoming a part of this new program, please see David Murray or call him at 651-2001. A meeting will be scheduled in the very near future.

KIA Thanksgiving Luncheon
Thursday, November 28 - Save the date!
  2009 thanksgiving gym
The 10th Annual KIA Thanksgiving Luncheon is on! Be sure to mark your calendars on November 28, Thanksgiving Day, and be a part of this wonderful community event.

Every year, the Kapa'a Interfaith Association, a group of eight Kapa'a Churches, get together to put on a special interfaith service and delicious Thanksgiving luncheon FREE to anyone in the community. They also deliver a turkey meal to shut-ins and those that can't drive to the gym. Last year, they served a record breaking 600+ lunches! Each of the churches raise the funds to purchase the food for the event, and Mark Oyama and his staff at Contemporary Flavors donate their time to cook, cater and serve it up! The youth from all the churches serve as waitstaff and bussers, and home-style entertainment is provided by members from the different churches.

All Saints' hosts the event, but it is a collaborative effort by all the churches that makes it so special! From planning, set-up, decorating, serving and breakdown, dozens of volunteers turn out for a day of fellowship and feasting! We are blessed to have Diane Sato and Mary Margaret Smith to represent All Saints' in this effort and to make sure the event runs like clockwork!  Stay tuned for more info and to sign up to volunteer!

Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
