A message from Rev. Mary Tudela:
 Aloha!
Dear Ones:I have held you all in my prayers these last two weeks while I've been back on the mainland. I write this to you from about 34,000 feet in the air on my way back home, reflecting upon our time together. What actually transpired was not what either of us had in mind when we agreed that I would serve you beginning on the feast of All Saints 2012. I characterize my serving this ohana as a time of "bridge ministry", and I find myself day dreaming about the meaning of the word "bridge". The London bridge immediately comes to mind in all of its magnificent splendor. Once you have been there and experienced it, you simply cannot forget it.
Here on Kauai we have our own unique bridges along this lush verdant land. Our single lane bridges suggest a quality of hospitality that can't be found in many other places in our world. People willing and content to wait patiently for one another as we weave our way around the island serve as a wonderful example of what cooperative ministry can become. And it is together in this becoming that we find gifts of the Spirit.
Bridges help us travel from one point to another. If we take the time to stop and stay still for a moment to study the composition of a bridge, we'll experience the manifestation of tangible structures that serve as foundation for transitions. Good interim ministry is much like the physical manifestation of a bridge; strong structures put into place via new relationships that leave a group of people different than when they began. We are all still in the same place, yet we have changed.
It has been my honor to serve as your priest over these last few months. Thank you. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your spiritual leader. If my leadership has in any way disappointed you, I pray for your gracious forgiveness.
Next week we will welcome Ryan+ as he begins his ministry among you and I will take my leave. And that is as it should be. Healthy churches respect healthy boundaries, and while many of you have graciously shared with me your reluctance to let go of our interim time together, let go we must. It won't be easy for any of us because as Robin+ so beautifully stated when I met her last fall, "It is easy to fall in love with this church family". Amen to that!
Change is constant in our world. When we live into changes we grow as Christians. Sometimes change is painful. Leave taking is one kind of change challenge. I will make myself scarce for a time in order to honor the new relationship that will be forming here with your new rector. Other than a very few agreed upon instances with Ryan+, I will not participate in church activities. Our Episcopal Church tradition of asking leaving clergy to stay away for a while has grown out of experiences that have been less than helpful across our national church. Please trust that we do this for good reason focused on what is best for the whole community.
I have traveled all around the bridge we call All Saints' Church in Kapa'a. For me it was a magnificent ride. I have been there and experienced it... I will not forget! You have been a true blessings in my life as I begin my own personal transition to make this island my new home. With an overflowing grateful heart I send you all my love.
Peace, Mary+ ___________________________________________
