May 10, 2013

Greetings!

Konishi
Rest in Peace, Kenneth Konishi
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Kenneth Konishi's passing early Wednesday morning, May 8. Kenneth was a long time member who was very active in the church until health issues forced him to slow down in recent years. Please keep his family in your prayers during this difficult time; his wife Mabel, Keith and Natalie Konishi, Melanie and Aaron Furugen, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. More information will be forthcoming as it is made available.

Reminder: May 19 is Pentecost Sunday - Wear Red!
Pentecost Jesus has ascended (The Feast of Ascension was May 9) and this week is our final Easter Sunday. Pentecost Sunday comes 50 days after Easter Sunday where it gets its name from the Greek word "fiftieth day", and this year it falls on May 19. Why red? Red symbolizes the joy and fire of the Holy Spirit as it descended upon the Disciples. Read Acts 2 to refresh your memory! Oh, and don't forget to wear red!

All Saints' Directory Update
Final Sunday for proofing!!!
The draft copy of the photo directory will be available for proofing for one more Sunday before it is finalized, formatted and printed! If you haven't already, be sure to check it for accuracy and put an "OK" by your entry, or mark changes. The directory will be on the table at the church entrance. We should be able to squeeze a photo in if you can e-mail it to Sybil ASAP!

If you'd like to contribute flowers, small leis and/or greenery, please bring them to church that Sunday and leave them by the sink next to the Columbarium.

Summer Sunday School
The last day of regular Sunday school will be May 26, but there will be a short summer Sunday school program led by the Ke Akua Youth Group that will take place every Sunday through June 23 (including June 2) during the 9:30 service. June 23 will also be Rev. Ryan's very first Sunday service with us. Sunday school will then take a break until the new church year begins in September.

This year's tournament will be held on July 26 & 27, but early bird notices are already going out to past participants for early reservations--- each year the tournament is booked up with a waiting list, so planning starts early. Practices will begin on July 1, 2013. The first volunteer meeting will take place mid-June. Stay tuned for details and MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

 Rectory Update - WOW!
Rectory floorsThe Rectory's massive remodeling project is moving along! The newly refinished floors are beautiful and the bathrooms are no longer recognizable, but as with any older structure, challenges pop up that were previously hidden behind walls. Although most of the work will hopefully be done before Rev. Ryan arrives, repairs will still continue. Rev. Ryan and Erin are no strangers to the challenges of remodeling. They completely refurbished their current home in Pasadena by themselves, and they will no doubt bring their skills and exquisite tastes, to transform the Rectory into their new home!

ECW Special Food Collections for Hale Ho'omalu
canned goods For the month of May, the ECW's special food collection for Hale Ho'omalu will be canned goods!  Requested items include soups, chili, pork & beans, SPAM, Vienna Sausage, tuna, fruit, vegetables, ravioli and spaghetti.

All Saints' has been a long time supporter of Hale Ho'omalu, a family service center located 1/2 block away from All Saints', but the ECW ladies have taken it a step further to be able to provide them with specific items needed each month. Other packaged and canned goods are always welcome as well as monetary donations, and can be left in the red wagon at the church entrance every Sunday.

Are you ready to blossom in stewardship?  Are you looking to plant the seeds of faithful giving in your congregation and diocese? Do you want to network with others passionate about generosity and discipleship? If so, be sure to register for the 2013 TENS Flourish in Faith Stewardship Conference on July 12-13 at the Episcopal Commons of Utah, in Salt Lake City.

For the first time, select workshops will be offered live through the internet. The webcast registration package is only $75. To view the conference flyer and webcast workshop package, click HERE.

The conference is designed to offer congregational and diocesan stewardship teams theological, scriptural and practical aspects of stewardship formation and annual giving.  Keynote speakers Sister Joan Chittister and Bishop Bruce Caldwell from the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming will explore: what does it mean to flourish in our faith? How do we find our ground of faith? Is it rooted in a God of abundance, or do we let our faith wither in a culture of scarcity?

To learn more about the conference and to register, visit the TENS website HERE
