May5 Celebrating Cinco de Mayo & Boy's Day
Sunday, May 5, 2013
In recent years, May 5th has become synonymous with Cinco de Mayo (a Mexican celebration), but generations of kama'ainas have known it as Boy's Day, a Japanese tradition brought over by early plantation workers, who strung carp banners outside of their homes to represent the family. As times have changed, so have these traditions... but not the cause for celebration! If you'd like to bring a dish for Sunday's refreshments in recognition of Cinco de Mayo or Boy's Day, please do so!

CONGRATULATIONS ALEXIS & MARICEL!
Maricel BishopBig congratulations to All Saints' members, Alexis Vicente and Maricel Baldovino (pictured center front row), along with others from Kaua'i's Episcopal Churches, who were confirmed this past Saturday at the island-wide Regional Confirmation Ceremony. Pictured at right is Maricel receiving the laying on of hands from Bishop Fitzpatrick. The ceremony was followed by a reception that took place at St. Michael and All Angels in Lihue. Many thanks to Bill Caldwell for stepping in to take photos of this special event!

Beinhart
Aloha 'Oe George Beinhart
George Beinhart, a long time member of All Saints', passed away this week in North Carolina. He and his wife Doris moved back to the mainland several years ago to be near family, but have stayed in close touch with members. Both were very active in the church, and George served as Senior Warden as well as our resident photographer--- the last photo directory was put together with photos that he took back in 2004. We have fond memories of George and Doris, who were always kind, gentle, generous, easy to laugh and above all, fine examples of Jesus' love in the world. Please keep Doris and the family in your prayers during this difficult time. Pictured above are the Beinharts in the last 2004 directory, and George as angel Gabriel guiding the young angels and shepherds in a 2003 Christmas pageant.

ANGELS & AVENGERS CRUSH CANCER!!!
Huge mahalos to all of our members for supporting the Ke Akua Youth Group and ECW's battle against cancer at the Relay for Life event that took place this past weekend in Hanapepe! Along with proceeds from December's craft fair food booth, luminaria sales, event food sales and your generous donations, the group raised over $3,500 for the American Cancer Society!
2013 relay late group
2013 relay trophyOur dedicated high school youth rushed back from their school prom in time for the event's "lap dance" contest after midnight, and took home the winning trophy! The overall theme of this year's Relay for Life event was Hollywood blockbusters, and each team chose a movie. All Saints' chose the Avengers, with the slogan "All Saints Angels & Avengers CRUSH Cancer"!

Special thanks to the ladies of the ECW that couldn't make the long drive out but made fabulous treats to sell; Wayne Doliente for cooking up the onolicious Portuguese Bean Soup; and to all the parents of the youth for their hard work and support! AMEN!!!

More pictures of the Relay event can be found on the All Saints' Facebook Page HERE.

ECW Special Food Collections for Hale Ho'omalu
canned goods For the month of May, the ECW's special food collection for Hale Ho'omalu will be canned goods!  Requested items include soups, chili, pork & beans, SPAM, Vienna Sausage, tuna, fruit, vegetables, ravioli and spaghetti.

All Saints' has been a long time supporter of Hale Ho'omalu, a family service center located 1/2 block away from All Saints', but the ECW ladies have taken it a step further to be able to provide them with specific items needed each month. Other packaged and canned goods are always welcome as well as monetary donations, and can be left in the red wagon at the church entrance every Sunday.

Are you ready to blossom in stewardship?  Are you looking to plant the seeds of faithful giving in your congregation and diocese? Do you want to network with others passionate about generosity and discipleship? If so, be sure to register for the 2013 TENS Flourish in Faith Stewardship Conference on July 12-13 at the Episcopal Commons of Utah, in Salt Lake City.

For the first time, select workshops will be offered live through the internet. The webcast registration package is only $75. To view the conference flyer and webcast workshop package, click HERE.

The conference is designed to offer congregational and diocesan stewardship teams theological, scriptural and practical aspects of stewardship formation and annual giving.  Keynote speakers Sister Joan Chittister and Bishop Bruce Caldwell from the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming will explore: what does it mean to flourish in our faith? How do we find our ground of faith? Is it rooted in a God of abundance, or do we let our faith wither in a culture of scarcity?

To learn more about the conference and to register, visit the TENS website HERE
