Hong Kong Dockworkers Strike
April 2, 2013, marks the sixth day of a dockworkers strike at the world's third busiest container port of Hong Kong. Currently 16 of the 24 ship berths are being affected by this strike. Late Monday night the port operator obtained an emergency court order which ordered protesters to vacate the terminal premises, but around 450 workers are continuing the strike at a location right outside the port facilities. The actions at the terminal have caused shipping lines to begin to reroute their cargo to neighboring ports, with some contingency plans to skip the Hong Kong port completely.
