ILA & USMX Resume Talks
The Star Ledger has reported that the ILA and the USMX have agreed to resume contract talks before Sunday's strike deadline. Both sides have responded to a request for a meeting by the federal mediator, although the meeting place and time remain unclear.
"Until we have a final deal it's still going to wreak havoc on a lot of companies that have got to continue to worry about this," said Jonathon Gold, a vice president for logistics at the National Retail Federation. "We hope this isn't just another kick-the-can down the road exercise. My members and everybody else need to know how to plan appropriately."

Union Blocks MassPort's Attempts to Extend Gate Schedule
MassPort has reported that the ILA has blocked its attempt to extend its gate schedule in effort to help port users move cargo off the piers prior to the strike deadline.
In a memo from MassPort, they advise that they are currently discussing viable options which will allow their customers to remove sensitive freight prior to a potential strike.
Currently, however, port users should NOT plan for an early gate this morning. For now, hours will remain as normal (8am through 5pm through Friday).
