Hurricane Sandy Aftermath

 

Liberty International has been following up with our carrier partners in regards to post recovery operations after yesterday's hurricane ravaged the eastern section of the U.S.

 

JFK International airport remains closed and all arrival and departure flights are cancelled until further notice from the NY/NJ Port Authority. Logan International airport in Boston, MA is open, but a majority of flights are cancelled and delayed. We are expediting all shipments that have arrived to Logan Airport.

 

The Ports of New York and New Jersey remain closed as security personal assess the damages at different terminals. No vessel operations are currently ongoing which is expected to cause backups, congestion and delays over the coming week. This includes the on dock rail from NY/NJ to the north east which is suspended until further notice.

 

Our warehouse partners in NY and NJ are also closed due to power outages and the closure of the New Jersey turnpike and bridges in the area. We will follow up with our warehouse partners daily and provide further updates as they become available.

 

Norfolk Southern & CSX the two major rails for the Northeast corridor remain closed. All containers on rail from Los Angeles/Long Beach and Tacoma, WA to the Northeast are being held in Chicago until further notice. Delays on rail shipments of up to 72 hours is expected.
