Economic Impact Calculator Added to Sourcebook

Housing Virginia has just added an innovative new web-based tool. The Economic Impact Calculator for new construction units generates short and long-term job creation, gross fiscal revenues, and local economic growth based on the locality, style of dwelling, and square footage of the unit. The calculator is a simple, easy-to-use way to demonstrate the potential economic benefits of affordable housing.

Senator Warner Keynotes Housing Credit Conference
Over 300 tax credit practitioners attended the 2nd Annual Virginia Housing Credit Conference in Richmond on September 3-4. Senator Mark Warner keynoted the Conference and provided a firsthand account of how tax reform may affect the credit program as well as his efforts to implement a new housing finance model to replace Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Look for Housing Virginia at the 2014 Virginia Governor's Housing Conference
The annual Virginia Governor's Housing Conference will be October 29th through 31st at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.
Housing professionals from throughout the Commonwealth will gather to explore a wide variety of housing issues through a multitude of educational concurrent sessions and a variety of thought-provoking plenary sessions led by experts in housing, finance and community development.

Housing Virginia to Present Preliminary Findings of LIHTC Energy Study at the Governor's Housing Conference
Housing Virginia, in partnership with the Virginia Tech Center for Housing Research, EarthCraft Virginia and VHDA, has been collecting and analyzing energy consumption data from a series of LIHTC projects around the state that incorporated EarthCraft construction methods and materials.
It will be the largest study of this type undertaken anywhere in the nation so far.

Continuing the Conversation: Housing & Schools
On June 18th, 2014, about 200 housers and educators gathered at VCU to participate in the kickoff of Housing Virginia's focus on the issue of Housing & Schools. In partnership with the VCU Wilder School, we brought industry experts from all over the region to present at Connecting the Dots Between Where Kids Live and Where They Learn: A Symposium on the Intersection of Housing & Education Policy.
The demand for more resources and events linked to housing and schools is clear from the full capacity of our single-day symposium, as well as the positive feedback from attendees. Housing Virginia hopes to fill the gaps between these two sectors by continuing the conversation surrounding housing and schools.

Charlottesville Region Studies Homesharing / Accessory Dwelling Units
The affordable housing industry often relies on innovative methods to provide diverse and quality housing to those who need it - one such method is "homesharing".
Homesharing is defined as two or more unrelated people sharing a home, where each resident has his or her own private bedroom, but shares common areas of the home. An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is an independent dwelling unit located within the home, or on the property. For both, a financial and/or service exchange can be arranged to compensate for rent expenses.
In partnership with the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA), the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) has completed the feasibility study of a potential Homesharing program in the region.
