Virginia Housing Awards Luncheon
Thursday, October 301th, 11:30am-1:15pm
Each year, the Virginia Governor's Housing Conference recognizes innovative, effective efforts that address housing needs seen around the Commonwealth. These awards will be presented during the luncheon on Thursday.
Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe will be addressing housing policy initiatives in his speech at the luncheon. Housing professionals from around the Commonwealth are looking forward to hearing what he has to say in light of recent budget cut proposals. Honorary Conference Chairman and Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia Maurice Jones will also speak at the luncheon. Secretary Jones spoke at Housing Virginia's Housing & Schools Policy Symposium last June, which gathered over 200 housers and educators at Virginia Commonwealth University to discuss the intersection of these two fields.
This will be the first year for the In My Back Yard "IMBY" Award to be recognized. Housing Virginia proposed this award to highlight individuals and organizations working to successfully overcome NIMBY ("Not In My Back Yard") while enriching their communities.
The recipient of the very first "IMBY" Award will be going to Arlington County and the Pike Planning Plenary Group for the Columbia Pike Planning Initiative.
