Are Virginians Approaching the "On Ramp" to Transportation Funding?

Long awaited increased funding for transportation may soon be a reality if the House of Delegates and Senate of Virginia can reach a compromise on competing transportation bills adopted by each chamber. The House of Delegates and the Senate have now both passed House Bill 2312 but in vastly different forms.



Medicaid Expansion Decision May Affect 400,000 Virginians

Affordable housing practitioners and advocates have long understood the connections between health and housing.   The availability of affordable health care often affects the same people who have challenges obtaining affordable quality housing.   Therefore, the elements of the upcoming Affordable Care Act and particularly Medicaid Expansion have held interest for housing professionals for some time and has been a primary focus during this General Assembly.

 

During this session of the General Assembly, legislators have wrestled with the topic of Medicaid Expansion, with the House and Senate taking different approaches.


Virginia to Receive $3.5 Million in "Robo-signing" Settlement 
     


In a recent letter to the Senate Finance and House Appropriations Committees, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli announced that Virginia had signed onto a settlement with Lender Processing Services, Inc., awarding $3.55 million to Virginia available for use in the General Fund on July 1, 2013. 
  

Partnership for Housing Affordability Sponsors Smart Growth for the 21st Century
 

The Partnership for Housing Affordability in Richmond recently sponsored Smart Growth for the 21st Century, hosted at the Richmond Association of REALTORS® with Housing Virginia. More than 90 realtors and other stakeholders attended the afternoon program, which featured Nathan Norris of Place Makers.

 


HOUSING 2020 Launches at VAR's Legislative Advocacy Conference
 
Earlier this month, Bob Adams from Housing Virginia addressed over 100 realtors from across Virginia as he presented, HOUSING 2020: What is shaping the Future of Housing in Virginia?  HOUSING 2020 is a comprehensive, multi-media analysis of trends that will determine the future of affordable housing in Virginia. It examines the key trend that are driving change using experts in four issue areas.


FHLB's 2013 Affordable Housing Program
 

FHLBank Atlanta has announced the availability of up to $500,000 per awarded project for the 2013 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) Competitive offering. The funds can be used to assist in the acquisition, construction, or rehabilitation of affordable rental or owner-occupied housing. Applications for the 2013 offering will be available beginning March 11, 2013, with a submission deadline of April 8, 2013. The final decision and notice of the awarded projects will be made in late July 2013, which means your project could be funded as early as September 2013!

 


DHCD to Convene 2013-2017 Consolidated Plan Input Sessions
 
The Virginia Department of Housing and Community (DHCD) will hold five input sessions throughout the commonwealth to solicit input from DHCD's partners and the general public for the 2013-2017 Consolidated Plan.
