October News From Angels...
Did you know that when babies reach the middle of their second year of life, they instinctively read human emotions and respond appropriately? Infants of this age can make an association
between events that happen and emotions. Babies understand a lot more than we give them credit for!  To read more about this fascinating topic, check out this article from NPR News.

Thank you for caring about our area's youngest foster children. For our latest news, please read on.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Mills, LCSW
Angels Foster Care Program Director

Welcome to our newly certified foster family, Sissy Ann and Dan of South Santa Barbara County, who recently accepted the placement of an infant girl. Thank you also to Jeff and Rachel of North Santa Barbara County for accepting the placement of a baby boy. Angels would like to recognize the amazing efforts of Keri and Ryan of North Santa Barbara County as our October Foster Parents of the Month. We are very grateful for the time you spend as foster parents, and for the love and support you have given your Angels children!

Visit our web site for full details on requirements, training, support and adoption. Now is a great time to begin the process in order to take advantage of our January Foster Parent Training Series. Note that pre-screening and certain paperwork are required before prospective foster parents may enroll in parent training classes. Please contact Social Worker Stacy Peterson as soon as you are ready to begin the process

If you can't foster, please consider a  donation.

Parenting a child who has experienced abuse or neglect?
Children who have been abused or neglected need safe and nurturing relationships that address the effects of child maltreatment. Information can help parents (birth, foster and adoptive) and other caregivers better understand the challenges of caring for a child
who has experienced maltreatment and learn about resources available for support. Child Welfare Information Gateway has published useful fact sheets for families dealing with these issues.Topics covered include definitions of abuse and neglect, health and psychological effects, how to help your child, where to find support and other resources. Visit Child Welfare for this useful tip sheet.
