Welcome...

It is quite fitting that November, a month in which we give thanks, is also designated as National Adoption Month. Since we received our first child in 2006, Angels Foster Care of Santa Barbara has welcomed 165 additional children into our family and 95 local families have opened their hearts and homes to these vulnerable little ones. Surrounded with care and concern, some children have stayed with their Angels families a limited time, benefiting from the stability and nurturance they received. Others have found their forever family through Angels.

While not an adoption agency, through the process of fostering and bringing children and families together, Angels has seen 76 children be adopted by their Angels family and another 10 children are currently in the adoption process. From these experiences, there is much thanks to give! We are thankful that all 166 little ones have been touched by the care and love of their Angels family. We are thankful for the families who have chosen to take this journey of parenting and fostering with us. We are thankful for the community's support of Angels, Angels families and Angels children.

And, above all, as our families recount time and time again, they and we, are truly the fortunate ones. Angels families and staff are very thankful for the children who have entered our lives and hearts, teaching us so much about commitment, joy, and love.

We wish you and yours a truly wonderful Thanksgiving.

Jennifer

Thank you Orcutt Lions Club!

Angels is very grateful for the longtime support of the Orcutt Lions Club. Every year the Lions gift Angels with thousands of dollars of baby gear and supplies, including car seats, diapers, clothing, feeding items and much more. These items are provided to our new foster families when they first receive a child placement.

Angels would especially like to recognize the efforts of program coordinator Lydia Magdaleno (center) who has worked tirelessly every year to make this donation possible. Thank you Lydia! We appreciate all of your hard work over the years!

Empowered to Connect
Conference

February 13-14, 2015 - Orange County

Some of you may be interested in "Empowered To Connect"  - a two-day conference designed to help adoptive and foster parents, ministry leaders and professionals better understand how to connect with "children from hard places" in order to help them heal. The conference features Dr. Karyn Purvis together with Michael & Amy Monroe, and is ideal for adoptive and foster parents, those considering adoption or foster care and those who are serving and supporting others, including social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, counselors, therapists and others. For information, click here.

Angels Continuing Education Reminder

Hello everyone! This is just a friendly reminder to make sure you are keeping up on your continuing education! All certified Angels Families must complete 15 hours per person of continuing education per certification year. 10 hours of your education must be completed online through FosterParentCollege.com

Certified families receive an email and log in instructions from me. The accounts are JOINT, which means each foster parent in the family completes the same courses and "shares" their credits. This way, you each get the 10 hours. Foster parents will be given more credits in their account to re-boot at the start of the calender New Year each year.

The remaining 5 hours continue to be independent study. You can select material of your choosing. This can be a book, online research, a conference, or a seminar. If you have questions about what counts, just talk to your Social Worker. After completing your independent study, don't forget to complete your book report! This form will also be provided to you by me at the time of initial certification, or your primary Angels Social Worker can also get it to you.
