 Eight years!  Eight years ago this month, an Angels family welcomed the first Angels child into their home and they, and Angels Foster Care of Santa Barbara, began a journey.  Just as our families often don't know what the path of fostering will entail or where it take them, Angels Foster Care took a similar leap with the sole purpose of providing refuge, consistency and nurturing to little ones in need throughout of community. The Angels approach to foster care was unique and novel. We wondered: Would the model be embraced? Would families be willing to make the sacrifices often needed? Would we be able make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable babies and toddlers?

 

165 children and 95 foster families later, Angels Foster Care is pleased to answer all these questions with a resounding "Yes!"  Families said "yes" and opened their hearts, our community said "yes" and provided support and most importantly, 165 children have shown us their "yes" as they have graced our lives, grown and thrived.

 

Angels has learned much along the way -- ways to improve, things to change or never change, and how much more there is still to do. 35 children this year so far have not had an Angels home available to them when needed. Please help us spread the word that despite all that has been achieved, the need remains great!

Newly Certified Families - belatedly, we would like to welcome Lisa & Larry of South Santa Barbara County for joining us as a newly certified family, and warm greetings to Brian & Alissa of South Santa Barbara County for certifying with Angels.

Our next series of training dates will be scheduled in January of 2015. Note that pre-screening and certain paperwork are required before prospective foster parents may enroll in parent training classes. Bring the kids for trick or treating at the Zoo and visit us at the Angels booth! There will be lots of trick or treating booths, family games, costumed characters and photo opportunities, outdoor DJ & dancing area, friendly fun and a separate spooky haunted house for the brave at heart. 

Angels Continuing Education Reminder

 

 

Hello everyone! This is just a friendly reminder to make sure you are keeping up on your continuing education! All certified Angels Families must complete 15 hours per person of continuing education per certification year. 10 hours of your education must be completed online through FosterParentCollege.com. 


 

Certified families receive an email and log in instructions from me. The accounts are JOINT, which means each foster parent in the family completes the same courses and "shares" their credits. This way, you each get the 10 hours. Foster parents will be given more credits in their account to re-boot at the start of the calender New Year each year. 


The remaining 5 hours continue to be independent study. You can select material of your choosing. This can be a book, online research, a conference, or a seminar. If you have questions about what counts, just talk to your Social Worker. After completing your independent study, don't forget to complete your book report! This form will also be provided to you by me at the time of initial certification, or your primary Angels Social Worker can also get it to you.

Angels' 2nd Annual 

Holiday Art Contest for Angels Children & Siblings!

 

We're seeking a design for our annual Angels holiday card featuring an original illustration from an Angels child or sibling. We welcome your contributions!

  

Please have your child create a design with the theme "Holiday Love." 

 


 

Guidelines:

  • Use 8 1/2 x 11" white paper (horizontal or vertical is fine)
  • Colored markers and/or paint are preferred over crayons or colored pencils
  • Deadline: November 3, 2014

ReMoved 2
 
If you haven't already viewed the award-winning short film "ReMoved" we encourage you to do so. It highlights detention and displacement from a child's perspective and was created by local filmmakers Nathanael and Christina Matanick. 

Angels is fortunate to use ReMoved as part of our new foster parent training curriculum. The Matanicks are now working on sequel, "ReMoved Part 2," and would appreciate your support! Check out their campaign here.
