Hands

Greetings...

This month began with an Angels family receiving a little one into their welcoming arms, the 150th child our agency has placed in local homes since our inception.  It is a milestone that fills us with a mixture of emotions. While we are pleased Angels and our wonderful families can provide refuge for a child, at the same time,  our hearts ache.

For a child to need an Angels home, we know it means  sad, awful, and often terrible things have happened in the lives of these very young children. They have been separated from the only family they have known. They arrive often unable to communicate their needs, their fears, and their worries.  We know their lives have been turned upside down and inside out and our hearts break.

We take solace in knowing that each child, upon arrival, is embraced by their Angels family and will continue to feel their sheltering arms, keeping them safe for as long as they are needed.  We know our families are helping to create an oasis for each Angel child, or as Elizabeth Lawrence writes, "...a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer and the morning more fragrant than ever again."  We know that as long as there is a need, Angels' families have open hearts and arms.

If you haven't already, please consider opening your heart and your arms to a child in need of a family.

Respectfully,

Jennifer L. Mills, MSW, LCSW

Volunteer Spotlight:
Sheri Mardiat

Sheri Mardiat joins Angels Foster Care as our Volunteer Coordinator. Sheri will work as a liaison with our community volunteers and help place them with volunteer positions at special events and foster parent outreach opportunities. Welcome Sheri!

From Sheri Mardiat:

I am honored and delighted to finally be a part of the Angels Foster Care team. I have admired AFC from afar for years as I have always been drawn to organizations supporting young children and enhancing their well-being. I strongly believe in the mission of AFC as I have seen first hand how a child can thrive in a stable and loving environment.

As a mother of a child adopted through international adoption, I can attest to how a child can flourish when in such an environment.  It is truly astonishing, heart warming and life changing to witness this!  It is my hope that all the foster children of Santa Barbara County get to experience a stable, safe and loving environment.
