Greetings!
The New Year is already in full swing here at Angels Foster Care of Santa Barbara. The last few months of 2012 saw us planning for 2013. As we start our seventh year of operation, we are reviewing our goals, identifying program areas to enhance and exploring ways we can better serve our families and Angels children. We are very excited about the new initiatives identified and will be sharing more information on these changes as they unfold.
One area to highlight this month is the expansion of our continuing education program for Angels parents. We are pleased to offer further specialized training at our offices each month. As always, suggestions about topics and speakers are very welcome; feel free share them with your social worker. Please read further in the newsletter to learn about opportunities in February and March.
Additionally, we will soon be adding another staff person to our Angels family. Given the large geographic area that our agency covers and our desire to augment support to our families, we've created a county-wide social work position. We have been interviewing many very qualified and amazing people and will soon be introducing our new social worker.
Stay tuned for future announcements!
Jennifer

Thank you Girls Inc.!
During December, kids that were part of the Girls Inc. downtown program raised money through a holiday coin drive. They researched charities, made presentations, and eventually narrowed down their choices to one recipient. We are so grateful that they selected Angels Foster Care for their donation!
Many thanks to all of the girls at Girls Inc. who learned about Angels Foster Care through this program, and for their dedication to helping foster babies and toddlers in need. Pictured here are several girls who came to our office to present their donation of $82!

Social Worker Corner: A Letter from Stacy Peterson
This will be my last Social Worker Corner..... don't worry, not forever! Just for a few months! The end of January marks the start time for my maternity leave (with the exception of a few things I will be sticking around for in early February)! As I eagerly anticipate the arrival of my baby boy in February, I am reminded of the many precious little ones you have all cared for. Especially during the first few months of life, babies require a lot of TLC. Often times older children require just the same level of care as they transition to a new foster home. Many of you have selflessly given up hours of sleep, social plans, and any type of schedule as you had known it to care for Angels children. Although I have been your social worker and leader, you have all been shining examples to me of what it means to be a loving parent. Thank you!
Many of you have inquired about my plans, and we all know how plans can go...they don't always work out as planned! However, as long as the little guy stays comfortable until his scheduled arrival date and we both remain healthy he is set to arrive into the world on February 20th. I plan to take 12 weeks leave and then return to my work at Angels full time in May 2013. For those of you in South County, not to worry, you will be in great hands while I am away! The rest of our staff will be available, as well as our new Social Worker who we will be introducing very soon.
Sincerely,
Stacy

The Last Word...
"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."
