Auburn Hills Christian School Newsletter
December 16th, 2012

We are so saddened by the events that took place  on Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary.  All of us are holding our children a little closer and we are praying harder than ever before for their safety.  We will continue to keep the safety of all of our students as a top priority.

My heart aches for these families and the children that witnessed such horror.  Let's all continue to pray for the community and families of Newtown, Connecticut.  We know that God is able to give them comfort, peace of mind and strength when there is nothing else that will. Many schools are encouraging their students to wear green and white on Monday as a show of support to the community of Newtown.  We will support this event and give permission to any of our students to wear green and white shirts on Tuesday, our normal jean day.  High School students will not be required to wear school or church related shirts on Tuesday.  We will still collect the $1 Jean Day fee but we will use it to go towards our Safe Harbor donations.  We will not discuss this event with any of our students.  This type of information is not only sensitive and too intense for many young children to deal with, but should be a discussion between a parent and child, should the parents choose to share information.

We do want to assure you that we continually update our policies to reflect any changes that we feel need to be made to make sure that we are providing the very safest environment possible.  We have policies in place that will help us to protect the students and staff of our school if there were ever an intruder and we have practiced for such an event. We do have confidence in God's protection and we pray daily over our students.

Each elementary student is required to bring in 2 dozen homemade cookies.  This year, we would like to extend an offer that we feel may make things easier for you.  We will help your students bake and decorate their cookies for a cost of $12.  We will provide all of the supplies and help your students make their cookies.  There are forms in the office, and forms went home in the Monday Mailers, for you to fill out to order your cookies.  You can also click the following link to download the order form.  We need all orders in by Wednesday so that we can prepare.

Boys should wear black pants and black shirts and girls should wear black skirts and black shirts.  We will provide scarves for them to wear that night.

Our Student Council will once again sponsor the Cougar's Secret Store.  This is the place that your students can purchase gifts for their friends and family.  All of our prices are $5 and under and we wrap the gifts for the students.  This will run through Thursday, December 20th.  It is a wonderful opportunity for us to teach our students about giving.

Illness Policy

One part of making sure that we provide a safe environment for your children is by enforcing our Illness Policy.  Please remember that students that run a fever of 100 degrees or higher must stay home until the fever has been gone, without any medication, for 24 hours.  Students are also not allowed back in school until it has been 24 hours since they last vomited.  Thank you for cooperating and helping us to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for your students.

It is that time of year, the busy holiday season.  Please remember as we enter this wonderful time with our families and friends that our payroll relies on your tuition dollars.  We would like to provide an incentive for our families to pay their December tuition by December 21st, the last day of school before Christmas Break.  Every family that pays their December tuition payment by Friday, December 21st will receive a 5% credit towards their January payment.
