The last newsletter of the year; hard to believe! Things that were so new to us back in September are now completely routine. The biggest change of the year has been the addition of the K-3 students, requiring additional teachers and scheduling changes not to mention three different Study Centers, pick up & drop off at multiple sites around the building, and extra lunch duties. As always, our excellent and growing staff managed all of this with great deftness. Having the littlest CVA-ers around has been as energizing as we expected, and we've also experienced the added benefit of having several different high schoolers help out with the K-1 and 2-3 classrooms.
Summertime always reminds me of the relationship between learning and schooling. Schooling, we hope, is a means to facilitate learning. During the summer, most students (and adults, too!) learn in ways other than schooling. It might include social learning, exploring a topic just out of pure curiosity, or reading for pleasure. Perhaps it means exploring the woods, going canoeing, or planting flowers. Whatever your choice of activities, I wish you a summer filled with learning and exploration! We'll look forward to continuing that journey when schooling resumes in September.
Have a great summer, everyone! I hope to see you at the school picnic on Wednesday!
Dave

Summer Learning Opportunities!
Cyber Village Academy will be offering online summer learning opportunities to CVA students in Grades K-12. This is an optional program designed to help students continue their learning through the summer. This opportunity is available to all new and returning CVA students, as well as those who attended CVA this year but are choosing not to return in the fall.
Student can sign up for access to ALEKS, our online math tool, for $25 for the entire summer.
Lexia, our online reading tool, MyON and Dreambox will be available to students for no charge all summer.
All courses are fully online, and Study Center is not available. There is no direct, teacher instruction included in this summer program. It is only access to our online tools.

Registration forms and payment are due to the CVA office by Monday, June 6th. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED PAST THIS DATE FOR ANY REASON.

For more information, please contact
Melissa Onyango-Robshaw   651-523-7170 ext. 100
End of Year Picnic

Come and join your CVA friends and family for a fun
picnic get-together!
On Wednesday, June 8th at 4:00 pm, bring a dish to share and your picnic blankets. Lawn games are welcome.  This is an annual event and is a great time to celebrate the year we've shared together.  Please note that it immediately follows the Community and Service Fair, so make an effort to come to be there!

In the event of rain, the picnic will be canceled.
Have You Returned Your Books?
June 9th  - All books must be returned.
Parents, if you can help send your students with their library books, that will be greatly appreciated!
If you have any missing books or concerns, contact
Augustina Nduagu  651-523-7170 ext 102.

Thank you!
Mini Society

Mini-Society for grades 4 & 5 have begun! Ms. Claire
Mr. Hohl are in need of donations for the final auction that occurs at the end of Mini-Society. Students use the currency they have created and earned to purchase the items.
If you have any small toys, games, gift cards or similar items that a fourth and fifth graders would enjoy, please drop them off to Ms. Claire or Mr. Hohl by June 7th. It's amazing what treasures can be found in the dollar bins or the never-been-opened items available at garage sales.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Eagle Bluff

The CVA 8th grade field trip to Eagle Bluff was a GREAT success!!  We conquered the high ropes course, had a beautiful day for canoeing down the Root River, worked together in our Group Challenges course, ate s'mores by the campfire, had some friendly competition during the Eagle Bluff Olympics and learned about raptors - and even watched it eat two rats!  The students were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING on this trip and deserve high praise!  We are already planning for next year's trip!!
Ballot for Open Board Seats
Voting for open board seats will take place on Wednesday, June 8 from 8:00 - 4:30.  All parents of CVA students as well as all CVA staff are eligible (and encouraged) to vote. Please view the ballot and information about each candidate before voting on June 8.
CVA families: the Community and Service Fair is getting closer, be prepared!

8th Grade & Senior Graduation
CVA will be honoring our graduating eighth graders and high school seniors on Thursday, June 9.
Eighth grade graduation will be at 4 p.m. in the gym, and high school graduation will be at 7:00 pm in the gym. Students and families should plan to attend the ceremony. There will be refreshments available after the ceremony.

Thanks for your continuous support of CVA!
Summer Bus Pass for
High School Students

Metro Transit just announced a special offer for students at high schools that offer the Student Pass program. For just $30, your students can get a special Summer Student Pass that gives them unlimited rides on buses and light rail all summer long! It's perfect for summer jobs, sports leagues and all the other fun that summer brings. The Summer Student Pass is valid from June 1 through Sept. 6th, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Students can use it on any bus or train in the metro with a fare up to $3.

Students can go to metrotransit.org/summer-student-pass to get more details about the pass and order one by using a credit card. They can purchase a pass with cash or a credit card at Metro Transit Service Centers.

To purchase a pass, the student must provide their school's name and their student ID number (the five digit number by the student name listed in PowerSchool). Metro Transit will deny purchases without this information. Seniors may purchase a Summer Student Pass if they were enrolled in a participating school in 2016.

Unlike the school-year Student Pass program, students will contact Metro Transit directly about lost or stolen Summer Student Passes. Students MUST register their pass (registration is free) with Metro Transit to receive a replacement pass.
A $5 processing fee will be charged

Not Returning to
Cyber Village Academy?
All currently enrolled Cyber Village Academy students have spaces held for them for the coming school year. If your student is planning to enroll elsewhere for the 2016-2017 school year, please notify Melissa Onyango-Robshaw  as soon as possible. We do have waiting lists in nearly every grade level, and if you know that your student is not returning CVA, we will offer the open space to a waiting student.
